A huge anti-war coalition says Congress should make new Iraqi funding conditional on firing the secretary of defense and other war hawks in the administration.
A broad-based coalition that includes veterans organizations is urging Congress to withhold new funds for Iraq until Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and others in the war party are fired.
In an open letter to President Bush and Congress, released in Washington Sept. 24, the Win Without War coalition called for funding for Iraq to be conditioned on "the dismissal of the Bush administration team responsible for the quagmire in Iraq - starting with Defense Secretary Rumsfeld."
It also called for an immediate end to the occupation.
The letter said there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and there was no link between Saddam and al Qaeda or to the attacks of 9-11.
"We were assured that American soldiers would be greeted with flowers, and democracy would blossom in Iraq and throughout the Middle East," the letter said. "Nothing could be further from the truth."
Americans were told "that the war would strike a blow against terrorism," the letter said. "In fact, the U.S. occupation is spawning new terrorists, galvanized by our presence and moving freely into this lawless, broken country."
"President Bush owes it to the American people - particularly those brave men and women in uniform on the front lines in Iraq - to stop dictating to our friends and allies and start cooperating," said former Rep. Tom Andrews (D-Me.), head of the coalition.
Amb. Joseph Wilson, who was dispatched by the vice president's office to investigate the president's claim that Iraq had been attempting to purchase uranium in Niger, accused the administration of imperialism.
"Our attack on Iraq - and our bungling of the peace - led to the guerrilla insurgency that is drawing jihadists from around the Muslim world," Wilson said. "We need to jettison the hubris that has driven this policy, the pretensions of moral rectitude that mask a pith-helmet imperialism that cannot succeed."
"I'm a patriotic American with three sons in the military,
two serving in Iraq," said Larry Syverson of Richmond, Va.
"But the leaders they serve have not acted honorably. They
have failed my sons. They have failed us all. At the very least,
Donald Rumsfeld must go."

FBI officials have identified more than 3,000 "front" companies in the United States operating as a cover for Chinese spies - but have been frustrated because the Bush administration is "slow to act" against the communist country due to Big Business's ties with the "People's Republic."
More than 3,000 companies in the United States are controlled by China's powerful Secret Intelligence Service (CSIS). Hundreds of Chinese intelligence officers and their well-paid informers are operating through these companies within this country.
Next to terrorism, the threat they pose is now regarded by the FBI as the most serious since the Soviet Union and Jonathan Pollard plundered America's defense secrets.
The revelations are contained in a briefing paper, which FBI Director Robert Mueller presented to a congressional committee last month. Despite the undoubted gravity of the report, it has gone unreported by the main stream media and the networks.
David Szady, FBI assistant director for counterintelligence, has categorized the situation as a "most grave and present danger." He added, "Left unchecked, such a situation could greatly undermine U.S. national security and U.S. military and economic advantage."
The FBI has sent a "red alert" to all technology companies that they are now the prime targets for Chinese operatives.
Corporate executive have been asked to review their internal security. Universities like Harvard and Yale are providing the FBI with details about Chinese students on campus. Organizers of technology conferences - which have always attracted Chinese scientists - are being briefed on how to recognize a possible CSIS agent.
"While the measures will seem draconian, the truth is that in the past three years, we estimate as much as $24 billion worth of secrets have been stolen by the Chinese," said a State Department intelligence analyst specializing in Asian and Chinese affairs.
To meet the threat, Mueller has ordered 167 senior agents in 56 FBI offices to be transferred into anti-espionage operations for the first time.
They are working from a blueprint of CSIS methods provided by the highest-ranking Chinese defector to reach America. He is Xu Junping, director of strategy in China's Defense Ministry. For five years, Xu oversaw all secret operations by CSIS against the United States. In his debriefing, he told CIA Director George Tenet that he had set up the structure for the 3,000 companies now operation across the United States.
Xu is now deep inside the witnesses protection program. But he still regularly meets with top FBI and CIA agents to discuss their latest discoveries.
At each meeting, Xu has urged that President Bush should send a blunt warning to China that its spying is bringing it closer to confrontation with the United States.
But sources within the Washington intelligence community told American Free Press "There is a clear reluctance to move against china. The intelligence consensus is that the president is receiving intense pressure from major U.S. business corporations in this country who do not want their huge holdings n the People's Republic to be disturbed."
There are currently hundreds of billions of dollars invested in projects in China by corporations listed on the Forbes Fortune 500.
FBI efforts have been further hampered by the reluctance of the of the Canadian government to allow its own intelligence agencies to cooperate. In Canada, there are known to be more than 300 companies that are also CSIS fronts.
Brian McAdam, a former Canadian foreign service officer, said that it "is very clear that political influence is at play."
McAdam worked on "Project Sidewinder," which detailed the penetration of CSIS into Canada. The report was never publicly released.
In the United States, the "front" companies report to the Chinese embassy in Washington or to China's consulates in other parts of the country.
The material is then sent to China's secretive Leading Group on National Security (LGNS). It reports directly to Prime Minister Wen Jispo. It also oversees CSIS operations.
The CIA's China desk analysts say the LGNS has concluded that by late next year, the United States will "attack North Korea, possibly its first move to tame China."
Meantime, the FBI is following up leads which include:
* How many Chinese students attending postgraduate courses in the United States have their tuition secretly paid for by CSIS?
* How many students, after qualifying in computers or science, receive orders to apply for jobs in U.S. corporations which have key defense contracts, or operate in the High-tech industry?
* How many students have been trained to steal trade secrets from their U.S. employers?
Currently the CIA is investigating:
* How far has CSIS penetrated CIA operations in the Pacific Rim?
* How did CSIS secretly contravene sanctions against Saddam Hussein to rearm Iraq in between the first ans second Persian Gulf wars?
* What are the CSIS links to al Qaeda?
* How far will China go in supporting other terror groups and
states like Iran and Syria?

A top North Korean scientist, working on a race-based bomb, has vanished. Was he taken by Western intelligence operatives or did the Chinese nab him?
Has Dr. Ri Chae Woo, North Korea's world-ranking expert working on a "whites-only" racial/genetic bomb, been snatched in a combined CIA, MI6 and Australian secret service operation? Or has Ri been grabbed by the Chinese Secret Intelligence Service - so that the communist government can discover just how far Kim Jong II, North Korea's unpredictable dictator, has advanced his threat to launch the ethnic bomb upon the world?
Kim could precipitate a crisis, which would bring China into direct confrontation with the United States - something it is not yet ready to do.
The "bomb," which is more accurately characterized as a biological weapon, is designed to attack specific human genetic structures. Its dispersal methods vary, but most analysts expect it would be put in a warhead and launched on a missile. Mossad, the CIA and MI6 have all independently confirmed Ri and his team of microbiologists were developing an "ethnic bomb" designed to attack white races.
The news has already sent a shock wave through the closed world of microbiology used for covert purposes.
There are various genetic components for racial types: hair color and texture, skin and eye color all the way down to nose shapes.
Ri and his researchers were working on a genetic bomb that would be deadly accurate in its targeting. To achieve this, they needed to create a genetic profile of people who uniquely share common inherited variations of their dopamine-regulating genes regardless of their ostensible race, geography or ethnicity.
A secret report, prepared for Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz by a team of geneticists, states: "Consider what could happen with a virus or bacteria that only infected a certain type of person. Consider the political leverage a nation would have if it could credibly threaten the extinction of all people worldwide of a certain color. Targeting specific genotypes could transform bio warfare."
At Britain's Porton Down and at Fort Detrick, Md., the details are being urgently studied. "A whites-only ethnic bomb in the hands of bin-Laden or a rogue state like North Korea or Iran could have a dramatic effect on the current balance of power," said a microbiologist at Fort Detrick.
"No one yet knows how far the North Korean research has gone. But the indications strongly suggest the work is far more advanced than any similar research in the West," said a senior Israeli intelligence source.
The search to create a "whites-only" bomb began in the aftermath of the Korean War when U.S. prisoners were secretly experimented upon in North Korea.
Until recently, China has been prepared to use North Korea as another surrogate to threaten the West while the communist government continues to build its own arsenal to face the United States.
In a document CIA Director George Tenet prepared for President Bush, the intelligence chief wrote: "by 2015, China will have deployed tens to several tens of missiles with nuclear warheads targeted against the United States." All the major decision-making by the Bush administration neo-conservatives for the Pacific region has been based on that prediction.
But news of the "whites-only ethnic bomb" has forced the Pentagon to rethink its position over North Korea. There is growing intelligence that North Korean leader Kim Jong II could be planning his own pre-emptive strike - increasingly convinced that it will be only a matter of time before the Bush administration deals with undoubtedly the most powerful arm in the "axis of evil."
Using its own missiles, North Korea can already hit West Coast cities like Seattle and Los Angeles.
Working with Iran, Kim could provide biological warheads for Tehran's Shaab-3 missiles. They have a range of 1,000 miles, bringing Israel and Cyprus - where the United States and Britain had strategic listening posts - within range of an "ethnic bomb" or other germs.
But the scientist who was working to make this possible, microbiologist Ri, has vanished after leaving his lab complex deep underground in the Chuba-ri Chemical Corp. in the city of Anbyon. The site is heavily guarded.
Ri was last seen in his lab late in June. On the last weekend of that month, he said he was going to visit what is believed to be the nerve center of North Korea's biological warfare research program. It is concealed under a mountain near Sukho, close to the Chinese border. It is there that the "whites-only" ethnic bomb is being developed.
It is where Ri developed other biological weapons. Just as Iraq's notorious "Dr. Germ," Dr. Rihad Taha, used prisoners to test out her biological weapons, similar experiments are conducted at Sukho. It is these experiments that could lay him open to charges of war crimes - if he has fallen into the hands of the West.
But at least one person who knew Ri - Dr. Norbert Vollersten, who worked in North Korea and now leads international demonstrations against the Kim regime - believes that Ri would have anticipated the possibility of facing trial.
"There is every possibility that he would have brought with him important documents listing the stage of the research he was engaged upon," Vollersten said. "He would trade them for a new life in the United States."
There is a precedent. After World War II, top Japanese scientists who had conducted germ experiments on U.S. and British prisoners were granted immunity from prosecution if they agreed to reveal their work to scientists at Fort Detrick. Many of those scientists were later granted U.S. citizenship and new identities.
Ri, along with his wife and two teenage children, managed to cross the border into China last August.
Douglas Shin, another campaigner against the Kim regime, who now lives in Los Angeles, said: "There is an organization which has helped a number of scientists to defect from North Korea. We believe Ri had previous meetings with its people. We also think he had in his possession on the day he disappeared, over 100 pages of documents and photographs showing human experiments. Those documents are the crown jewels that America needs to nail North Korea."
"Despite its citizens starving, Kim has spent large sums of money on biological weapons," confirmed John Bolton, U.S. under secretary of state for arms control and international security.
As well as the "whites-only ethnic bomb" program, there is mounting evidence of how far advanced North Korea's biological program has become since it began to develop biological weapons in the 1960s.
Initial research had focused on anthrax, cholera and yellow fever. But both the CIA and MI6 claim that in the past five years, Ri has led a team working exclusively to develop the plague - the Black Death of medieval times - and smallpox. The only known repositories for smallpox are at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta and at a similar laboratory in Moscow. Both are strictly monitored by the World Health Organization under the 1972 Biological and Toxin Convention (BWC) an international treaty signed by over 140 nations.
But the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, at Fort Detrick, has accumulated "credible evidence" that a number of terrorist groups or nations have obtained, or are trying to obtain, clandestine stocks of smallpox - and are actively trying to produce weaponized armaments based upon the virus. Israel and North Korea are placed at the top of the list. Both have refused to sign the BWC treaty.
"It is to try and discover how far advanced North Korea has become that makes Ri so important in the entire black world of biological warfare," said Douglas Shin.
The mystery of his disappearance began three weeks ago, in the bustling city of Guangzhou in southern China. The Australian government has its consulate in a high-rise office building in the city.
In the early hours of the morning on a day in September, a man was seen trying to enter the building. His physical description - middle-aged, stocky, bespectacled and with thinning hair - matched that of Ri.
The man was seen to reach the stairwell of the high-rise. But he never emerged again. The consulate was closed at the time. But earlier local residents had seen "foreigners coming and going from the upper floors where the consulate is situated," said one.
All the Australian government in Canberra will admit is that it would have been impossible for anyone to reach the consulate by the stairwell.
Had Ri been met in the stairwell by the combined team of CIA, MI6 and Australian security agents? If so, did they smuggle him out by some other means? And where did they take him from Guanzhou?
There have been some reports, so far never confirmed, that Ri was taken to the coast and spirited across to Taiwan. If so, it would be a remarkable feat. The sea in that area is heavily patrolled by Chinese navy gunboats and warships.
The other, and perhaps more plausible theory, is that Ri was grabbed by Chinese secret service agents. His fate will then be sealed: after interrogation he will be sent back to North Korea and certain death.
His wife and children have, according to U.S. intelligence sources, made their way out of China and could soon be in the United States.
A key question is whether Ri passed over his explosive documents
to his wife as her "passport" to freedom in America.

President Clinton's close friend, a billionaire and fugitive from justice, was a top Mossad source - and could wreck plans by Hillary Clinton if she decides to run for the presidency.
Billionaire fugitive Marc Rich, a close personal friend of President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary, was one of the most important high-level contacts Mossad had in the United States.
The revelations, published here for the first time, could be a serious blow for Hillary Clinton's plans to run for the presidency.
Today Rich, a Belgian-born Jew who has taken Spanish nationality, lives in Switzerland under heavy, armed-guard protection. There is no extradition treaty with the United States to enable him to be questioned by the FBI about his until now secret connection to Mossad.
In January 2000, his last day in office, Clinton pardoned Rich, a secretive commodities trader indicted in 1983 on charges of evading almost $50 million in taxes and illegally buying oil from Iran during the Tehran hostage crisis in 1979.
The question that will inevitably dog Hillary, if she runs for the presidency, will be how much did she and her husband even suspect about Rich's Israeli intelligence links.
An MI6 file covering the Clinton years in the White House reveals that Rich is also suspected of knowing the real identity of a top Mossad informer in the Clinton administration.
The informer is still only known as "Mega." The name was first discovered in February 1997 by the National Security Agency (NSA). It provided the FBI with an intercept of a late-night telephone conversation from the Israeli Embassy in Washington.
It was between a Mossad intelligence officer, still identified only as "Dov," and his superior in Tel Aviv. The intelligence officer was later named as the Mossad director-general, Danny Yatom.
"Dov" had asked for guidance as to whether he "should go to Mega" for a copy of a letter written by Warren Christopher, then secretary of state, to PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat.
Yatom instructed Dov, according to a transcript of the intercept, "This is not something we use Mega for."
The MI6 file indicates that Mega had been in place toward the end of the first Bush administration.
It also describes how Rich had acted as a "conduit" for the powerful Israeli lobby in the United States to counter FBI demands that the hunt for Mega should be pursued as vigorously as the FBI dealt with spies from other countries.
The then MI6 head of station at the British Embassy sent a memo to London stating that "dinner guests at the White House dining table - who include Hollywood stars, attorneys, editors and senior members of the Anti-Defamation League - lose no opportunity to remind Clinton of the damage he could face in this matter. They argue the hunt is not properly grounded and that Israel has already explained to DOS [Department of State] the use of Mega."
Mossad sayanim - the Hebrew name for "helpers" - in the U.S. media had already planted stories that "Mega" was an incorrect hearing of the Mossad slang for the CIA, Elga.
"Further, Mega is supposedly a well-known word in USIC [the U.S. intelligence community]. It is said to be a joint code for shared intelligence with Mossad," the MI6 memo stated.
President Clinton's only comment on pardoning Rich came after he left office.
"It was terrible politics. It wasn't worth the damage to my reputation," he told Newsweek magazine.
There has been widespread speculation among opponents of the Clintons that Rich "bought" the pardon with political donations and gifts that his former wife, Denise, gave the president and other Democrats.
But in a hint of Rich's important connections to Mossad, Clinton has admitted that he granted the pardon "partly because the Justice Department did not oppose a pardon and because I had received a request from the government of Israel."
That request came in a personal handwritten note from another old friend of Clinton, Israel's former prime minister, Ehud Barak.
The MI6 file reveals that the pardon was stitched into the Camp David peace agreement by another plea-bargainer, Benjamin Netanyahu.
Clinton was convinced there were "strong mitigating circumstances for a pardon."
Rich and his first wife, Denise, fled to Switzerland in 1983 - just before U.S. prosecutors brought charges against him of tax evasion and trading with the outlawed regime in Iran.
The couple divorced a decade later and Denise, 59, now lives in New York in a magnificent Fifth Avenue duplex overlooking Central Park.
Rich, 69, has remarried and lives in similar splendor in the exclusive town of Zug in Switzerland. He still deals in commodities. His company, Marc Rich & Co Investment, has recently been taken over by the Russian Alfa Group for a reported $3 billion.
Rich's secret work for Israel included organizing Israeli passports for members of the Russian Mafia. So far 30 known members of various Mafia groups are currently traveling on Israeli passports.
The FBI was also investigating Rich's connections to various money-laundering operations involving mid-European banks and those in Canada and the United States.
Rich's prime use for Mossad was as someone who moved in the highest financial circles in Europe, the Middle East and South America.
It is those ties the FBI and other teams of U.S. investigators were examining to see if they link to the large sums of money Rich paid to the Clintons and other Democrats before the pardon was granted.
WHITE PAPERS
At the time, federal prosecutor Mary Jo White launched a criminal investigation into Rich's financial links with Clinton and his wife.
White obtained copies of Clinton's White House phone logs and those of Air Force One. The logs covered all calls the president and Hillary made to Rich. There was also a complete record of all his calls to them.
All official calls are monitored by the U.S. communications team that accompanies the president and his wife on all visits. The calls were described at the time as "a key element in our investigation," by one of White's aides.
Clinton himself received from Denise, just before leaving office, a check for $450,000 to help him set up his Presidential Library Fund. Denise also sent $1.1 million last year to the Democratic Party to help Al Gore fight for the presidency.
SMOKING GUN
Until now, all the financial links to Rich's past have not been pursued. But it is the Mossad connection which could prove to be a "smoking gun" for Hilary, should she enter the presidential race - either next year or in 2008.
Shortly before he was kidnapped by Hezbollah in October 2000, Mossad agent Hanan Tannenbaum visited Rich in his Swiss home.
Tannenbaum had been sent by former Mossad director Yatom to discuss what Tel Aviv sources later admitted were "intelligence matters of the highest order." At the time, Yatom was personal security adviser to Prime Minister Barak.
Hezbollah somehow spirited Tannenbaum out of Europe to their base in the Beka'a Valley. His fate remains unknown.
In January 2000, shortly before the Rich pardon was granted, the Senate Judiciary Committee received documents that showed Rich played a crucial role in helping the Bank of Credit and Commercial International (BCCI) arrange for Abu Nidal to receive "hundreds of millions of dollars for illegal arms transactions in an effort to persuade its wealthy Middle East backers that the bank was staunchly pro-Arab."
A sworn affidavit by Ghassan Quassem, for 17 years a senior officer with BCCI, states: "British weapons secretly destined for Abu Nidal were financed through BCCI offices and shipped under export documents that Marc Rich knew to be phony. My role at the bank was to handle the Nidal account. I later became a spy for the CIA and MI6."
With the coming election promising to be a knuckle-duster fight, there is a real possibility that Rich may once more step back into a spotlight he never welcomed. Nor the Clintons.
Rich received one of 140 pardons Clinton granted during his final hours for what was a rogue's gallery. The clutch of shady characters included a heroin dealer.
But it was the odious figure of Rich who has left a permanent stain on Clinton's presidency - and raises questions now.
Rich played a key part in supporting the apartheid regime in South Africa, and the economic rape of post-Soviet Russia.
His former wife, the Manhattan socialite, pleaded his cause by throwing money at the Clintons - even giving Bill a saxophone.
A hint of Clinton's feelings for Rich is contained in a book proposal he has entered into with Knopf, the New York publisher, for $10 million.
In an outline for a chapter headed "How a Man Gets What He Really Wants," Clinton writes: "Sometimes people who seem to have very little in common can discover what they have in common."
Was he referring to Rich?
Certainly the billionaire is not quite as rich as he was two years ago. In March 2001, British Customs officers at Gatwick airport seized $1.9 million of Rich's money.
The money was seized under UK laws designed to "prevent the movement of money from suspected drug trafficking."
Last week in Zug, Rich refused to answer questions about his intelligence links - or his connections to Saddam Hussein, North Korea and Iran.
Having renounced his American citizenship, he now travels on Spanish and Israeli passports. He has dual nationality with both countries. Until recently, he also held a Bolivian passport.
The power for a president to grant a pardon stems from the Constitution. This states that the president "may grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States.
A president can issue a pardon for "any federal crime for any reason and no reason - before or after conviction."
The Clinton pardon stopped the prosecution in their tracks. Post-pardon Rich is free to return to the United States without fear of prosecution - except possibly in the case of compromised national security.
There is no precedent for that - and Rich is unlikely to provide
one. But his links to Mossad remain a ticking time bomb for Hillary.

With close connections to the key individuals who had control of the twin towers shortly before they were destroyed, the obvious question is: Sis Rupert Murdoch have prior knowledge of the impending Sept. 11, 2001 attacks?
Rupert Murdoch sits at the helm of News Corp. and is described as television's "most powerful man in the world with the capacity to reach more than 110 million viewers across four continents." Murdoch's network owns more than 175 newspapers, journals and magazines on three continents, publishes 40 million papers a week and dominates the newspaper markets in Britain, Australia and New Zealand. In the United States, Murdock owns, among other things, The New York Post and the Fox News network.
An old close friend of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Murdoch openly supports the extremist Likud Party of Israel and the Anglo-American "war of terrorism."
What is less well known, however, is Murdoch's involvement in the production of a television program in 2000, which foreshadowed the attacks on the twin towers, and his personal connections to the key individuals who came into possession of the World Trade Center shortly before its destruction.
Having produced a film about a 9-11-like attack on the World Trade Center and being closely connected to the individuals who leased and insured the WTC against precisely such an attack is indicative of some prior knowledge.
Calls to Murdoch's office by American Free Press to ask what he may have knoen about the possibility of such an attack were not returned.
THE LONE GUNMEN
on March 4, 2001, Fox TV, a branch of Murdoch's media empire, broadcast the polot episode of a program called "The Lone Gunmen." A spin-off of the popular "X-Files, Murdoch-owned companies produced the pilot episode in Vancouver, Canada, and New York from Parch 20 to April 7, 2000.
The pilot episode depicted a passenger aircraft being hijacked by a hostile computer hacker and flown directly into one of the towers of the World Trade Center.
The climactic sequence actually shows the plane heading for one of the towers; but, at the very last moment, the pilots are able to regain control of the plane and avoid the building by inches.
After 9-11, however, rather than being discussed as a prescient warning of the possibility of such an attack, the pilot episode of "The Lone Gunmen" series was quietly forgotten.
Although an estimated 13.2 million viewers watched the pilot episode, very few recalled the program when life imitated art six months later on 9-11.
"I woke up on Sept.11 and saw the actual attack on TV, and the first thing I thought of was "The Lone Gunmen," Frank Spotnitz, one of the program's four executive producers, said, "But then in the weeks and months that followed, almost no one noticed the connection."
Spotnitz, John Shiban, Vince Gilligan and Chris Carter are all listed as executive producers of the program.
"What's disturbing about it to me is, you think as a fiction writer that if you can imagine this scenario, then the people in power in government who are there to imagine disaster scenarios can imagine it, too," Spotnitz said.
Robert McLachlan, director of photography, received an award from the Canadian Society of Cinematographers on March 31, 2001, for his work on the pilot episode.
"It was odd that nobody referenced it," McLachlan told American Free Press about the uncanny similarity between the television program he filmed and the reality of 9-11. "You're the first person who mentioned it," he claimed. "In the ensuing press nobody mentioned that 9-11 echoed something that had been seen before."
AFP asked McLachlan about the creative talent behind the pilot program. "Hohn Shiban was primarily the creator," McLachlan said, adding. "Chris Carter was not there." Carter is well known for his production of the X-Files."
"It's their baby," Carter said about "The Lone Gunmen." Carter reportedly had "a minor part" in the production. Carter and Shiban could not be reached for comment.
CONNECTIONS
Murdosh's sympathies for Zionism and Israel are well known and a matter of record. As New York Gov. George Pataki said, "There is no newspaper in the United States more supportive of Israel than Murdoch's New York Post."
It is through his involvement in Zionist organizations that Murdoch is seen to be connected to the key individuals who arranged the privatization of the World Trade Center shortly before its destruction. These key individuals include Larry Silverstein and Frank Lowy, the lease holders of the WTC property, and Port Authority Chairman Lewis M. Eisenberg, who supervised the transfer of the leases.
Shortly before 9-11, Silverstein Properties and Lowy's Westfield America obtained 99-year leases on WTC. Silverstein Properties controlled the 10.6 million-square-foot complex, which included the twin towers office buildings and two none-story office buildings. Lowy leased the shopping concourse called the Mall at the World Trade Center.
"Six weeks before the WTC towers were destroyed, the Port Authority completed the process of leasing them for 99 years to Larry Silverstein, the developer who had built the World Trade Center. Simultaneously, the retail space underneath the complex was leased to Westfield America, the U.S. division of an Australian company that is one of the World's largest operators of shopping malls" Paul Goldberger wrote in New Yorker, May 20, 2002.
"Silverstein and Westfield were given the right to rebuild the Structures if they were destroyed, and Westfield has the right to expand the retail space by 30 percent," Goldberger wrote.
Silverstein is suing to obtain $7.2 billion in insurance money for the destroyed World Trade Center, property he had leased with a reported $100 million down payment of borrowed funds.
Murdoch has been honored by, and belongs to Zionist organizations in which Silverstein, Lowy and Eisenberg hold senior positions, or which they fund. These organizations include the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), the United Jewish Appeal (UJA), and the New York-based Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust.
Silverstein and Eisenberg have both held senior leadership positions with the United Jewish Appeal (UJA), a billion dollar Zionist "Charity" organization to which Murdoch and Lowy generously contribute. In 1997, Henry Kissinger presented Murdoch with the UJA's award for "Humanitarian of the Year."
Silverstein is a former chairman of UJA. This organization raises hundreds of millions of dollars every year for a network of Zionist agencies in the United States and Israel. Eisenberg, who was instrumental in obtaining the lease for Silverstein, is on the Planning Board of UJA.
Eisenberg in his role with the Port Authority was the key person who negotiated the 99-year leases for Silverstein and Frank Lowy's Westfield America, who were in fact low-bidders for the lease on the 110-story towers and the retail mall.
Murdoch and the Czechoslovakian-born Israeli commando Frank Lowy, a former fighter in Israel's Golani Brigade who went to Australia in the 1950s, have had a long friendship, which Murdoch recounted during an American Australian Association fund-raising dinner in honor of Frank's son, Peter S. Lowy, in New York on November 20, 2002.

Sam Kiley, veteran journalist on the Middle East for The Times (UK), wrote about the man who took over the famous British paper. Murdoch is a close friend of Ariel Sharon." Kiley said Murdoch's friendship with Sharon, led senior staff at the paper to rewrite important copy.
"Murdoch's executives werw so afraid of irritating him that, when I pulled off a little scoop of tracking down and photographing the unit in the Israeli army that killed Mohammed al-Durrah, the 12-year-old boy whose death was captured on film and became the iconic image of the conflict, I was asked to file the piece ‘without mentioning the dead kid,'" Kiley wrote. "After that conversation, I was left wordless, so I quit."
The visit with Sharon included a trip for Murdoch and his editors
from New York and London that "took them on a bird's-eye
tour of Israel aboard a helicopter gunship, flying over the Golan
Heights, West Bank and settlements."

Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinichl, in conjunction with 20 fellow colleagues, wants much of the so-called "Patriot Act" repealed.
Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) stood outside the Capitol in the bright sunshine Sept.24 to announce legislation that would gut the Patriot Act of its violations of Constitutional liberties. Inside, Congress was killing a major data-mining operation born of the legislation.
"Americans did not authorize the deterioration of the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth and 14th amendments" because of the Sept.11, 2001, attacks, said Kucinich, who is running for president.
"Will we live in perpetual fear and continue to allow the disintegration of our basic rights and liberties?" he asked in announcing the Benjamin Franklin True Patriot Act. "Will we stand by as the administration formulates a second and more dangerous Patriot Act because, in the president's words, ‘the first bill didn't go far enough"? Or will we step back from this atmosphere of fear and work to restore our basic freedom and rights?"
His legislation with 20 original co-sponsors including Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex), repeals sections of the Patriot Act that authorize "warrantless sneak-and-peek searches, warrantless library, medical and financial record searches and the detention and deportation of non-citizens without meaningful judicial review," Kucinich said.
"It also restores the fundamental right of attorney-client privilege and restores transparency in the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security by revoking FOIA secrecy orders, along with other important provisions," he added.
"Members from both side of the aisle are calling for corrections to be made," said George Nojeim of the American Civil Liberties Union. It was also praised by the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism and the NAACP.
At the same time, Congress was pulling the plug on a data-mining computer program criticized as a super-snoop system to spy on American citizens and is closing the Pentagon office that created it.
"The outcome here is that we are not going to have Americans picked up by their ankles and turned upside down, then shaken to see if anything funny falls out," said Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.). "We won't see Americans on American soil being targeted under the biggest surveillance program in the history of the United States."
A House and Senate conference committee agreed on instructions to close the Information Awareness Office (IAO) and included the instructions in the final defense spending bill of $368 billion for fiscal 2004. The bill cannot be amended and is expected to pass both chambers and then be signed by President Bush, despite White House support for the program.
"The conferees are concerned about the activities of the Information Awareness office and direct that the office be terminated immediately," the legislation says.
The IAO was opened after the 9-11 attacks and was led by retired Navy Vice Adm. John Poindexter, whose conviction for deceiving Congress in the Iran Contra scandal of the 1980s was overturned.
"The Poindexter program was over the line and what has
been decided by Congress is the lights are going out on what John
Poindexter conceived."

Since AFP first published a photograph from the 9-11 Pentagon
crash site, there has been a great outpouring of interest - and
disinfo.
When American Free Press published a hard-to-find photo from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) archive showing a small turbine disc from the Pentagon crash site, it was hoped that readers could help identify the object (Sept. 15 & 22). Since the photo and article were published there has been an outpouring of interest - and disinformation - about the unidentified jet engine part.
The photograph reveals a crucial piece of evidence, which if positively identified could help prove what kind of aircraft hit the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.
"Is this the 9-11 smoking gun?" Fintan Dunne, editor of WagKingdom.com asks on a web page dedicated to the FEMA photographs. These photos could be the keys to unlock the cover-up, Dunne wrote on Oct. 7.
"Among all the arguments about 9-11: tower fires, WTC 7 collapse, etc., none seems as straightforward as that posed by the jet engine part," Dunne said. If the Pentagon photos are authentic, he said, then either the turbine is from a Boeing 757, or it is not. The web site appeals to "aero engineers" for help in identifying the disc seen in the FEMA photos.
The photograph is one of many taken by Jocelyn Augustino, a FEMA photographer, at the Pentagon crash site on Sept. 13, 2001. In the FEMA on-line photo library, the best photos of the unidentified disc are numbered 4414 and 4415, archived at: www.photolibrary.fema.gov/photolibrary/advancedsearch.do.
Several readers wrote to AFP suggesting that the unidentified disc was a piece from the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) mounted in the tail section of a Boeing 757. Honeywell makes the GTCP331-200 APU used on the 757 aircraft. No one suggested, however, that the small disc was a piece from one of the main engines of a 757-200.
AFP contacted Honeywell's Aerospace division in Phoenix, Ariz., and sent high-resolution photos for their examination. "There's no way that's an APU wheel," an expert at Honeywell told AFP. The expert, who cannot be named, added: "That turbine disc - there's no way in the world that came out of an APU."
American Free Press contacted Pratt & Whitney and Rolls Royce, manufacturers of the 757's turbofan jet engines to try and identify the piece.
"If the aircraft that struck the Pentagon was a Boeing 757-200 owned by American Airlines, then it would have to be a Rolls Royce engine," Mark Sullivan, spokesman for Pratt & Whitney, told AFP.
John W. Brown, spokesman for Rolls Royce (Indianapolis), had previously told AFP: "It is not a part from any Rolls Royce engine that I'm familiar with, and certainly not the AE 3007H made here in Indy."
The AE 3007 engines are used in small commuter jets such as the Cessna Citation; the AE 3007H is also used in the military's unmanned aircraft, the Global Hawk. The Global Hawk is manufactured by Northrop Grumman's subsidiary Ryan Aeronautical, which it acquired from Teledyne, Inc. in July 1999.
If the government version that an American Airlines 757-200 hit the Pentagon is accurate, then the object in the photo would have to be from a Rolls Royce RB211-535 turbofan engine.
When AFP told Brown that it must be a piece of a Rolls Royce engine, Brown balked and asked who at Pratt & Whitney had provided the information.
Asked again if the disc in the photo is a piece of a Rolls Royce RB211-535, or from the AE 3007 series, Brown said he could not answer.
AFP then asked Brown if he was actually familiar with the parts of an AE 3007H, which is made at the Indiana plant: "No," Brown said. "I don't build the engines. I am a spokesman for the company. I speak for the company."
Rolls Royce produces the RB211-535 engines for American Airlines 757-200 aircraft at a plant in Derby, England. Martin Johnson, head of communications at Rolls Royce in Derby, said he had followed the story closely in American Free Press and had also been notified in advance by Rolls Royce offices in Seattle and Indianapolis.
However, rather than address the question of the unidentified disc, Johnson launched a verbal attack on this reporter for questioning the government version of events at the Pentagon on 9-11. "You are the only person in the world who does not believe that a 757 hit the Pentagon," Johnson said. "The idea that we can have a reasonable conversation is beyond your wildest dreams," Johnson said and hung up the phone.
Flug Revue, a German magazine about aviation equipment was more willing to discuss the disc. Karl Schwarz, a technical editor at the Bonn-based publication, examined the photo and technical drawings of the RB211-535 for AFP. "I think only an engineer who is involved in the design of the engine could identify the part," Schwarz said.
While the front fan of the RB211-535 has a 74.5-inch diameter, compression discs inside the engine are much smaller. Schwarz said the inner discs are between 29 and 41 inches in diameter. "It could well be" an inner compression disc, Schwarz said. The discs from the inner stages are made of titanium, he added.
AFP asked Schwarz if this could be a disc from a smaller engine, such as the Global Hawk's AE 3007H. "It could come from any jet engine," Schwarz said.
If the disc in the photo can be matched with a Rolls Royce AE 3007H engine, some speculate that it would prove something like a Global Hawk hit the Pentagon.
The Global Hawk engine is hand built at the Rolls Royce plant in Indianapolis and has an opening diameter of 43.5 inches. Schwarz said he did not have a technical diagram of an AE 3007 engine to consult.
Because the disc in the photo appears very similar in size and shape to the front fan of a Global Hawk engine, AFP asked Schwarz in what position is the solid disc found behind the front fan of a turbofan engine. "Immediately," Schwarz said.
An unnamed former cruise missile engineer for the engine manufacturer Teledyne Continental Motors-Turbine Engines added his opinion to the debate:
"Clearly, the part in the picture is larger than 24 inches in diameter. It also appears to have a nosepiece-like device on its front. This probably houses bearings, front oil sump and perhaps an alternator or starter."
This engineer concluded with the intriguing comment, "This
fan did not come from a cruise missile engine."

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's wildcat strike on a purported terrorist training camp in Syria was planned with the support of neo-conservative war hawks in Washington, who maintain close ties to the Likud Party in Israel.
Hours before Israeli fighter bombers attacked Syria, prime minister Ariel Sharon called secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld to tell what was about to happen. Sharon's call to Rumsfeld was the climax of weeks of intensive and secret planning between Tel Aviv and Washington to attacl what both saw as a "terror harboring state."
U.S. state-of-the-art listening equipment along the Iraq border with Syria and high flying spy planes based in Turkey provided vital information to Israel's own electronic intelligence net over Syria.
The intention behing the attack was two fold. To issue a stark warning to the Damascus regime that it could be attacked with the same impunity that preceded the full-scale invasion of Iraq and to test the defenses - and resolve - of Syria to launch any military counterstrike against Israel.
Such an attack would be the final excuse that Sharon has been waiting for. His air force is on hardstand readiness to make the 15 minute flight deep into Syria. American planes in Iraq could join in the assault - going to the "aid" of its one real partner in the region.
It is this grim scenario that could be the next stage of an already inflammable situation.
Israeli sources said that Rumsfeld told Sharon: "We, and you, are fighting a war against terrorism." Implicit in the words, said those sources, was that President George W. Bush would see the attack - which violated all international treaties - as no different from America's war in Afghanistan and Iraq, or in previous U.S. raids on Yemen.
The Israeli attack was on an alleged terrorist training camp at Ain Saheb, 10 miles north of Damascus. It was the first air strike in Syria by Israel in 20 years.
U.S. surveillance aircraft in adjoining Iraq provided the Israelis with photo-reconnaissance details of the camp. But it has emerged that the camp was deserted when the attack came.
While Islamic Hihad issued its routine denial that it had training camps in Syria, similar camps operated by Hamas are known to be sited in Lebanon's Beka'a Valley, and the fact is that Washington pointedly refrained from condemning the Israeli air strike.
Privately, Bush's closest aide, Karl Rove, let it be known that the president approved it.
"He saw it as a clear warning to terrorists that they can be reached anywhere," Rove told selected reporters. "See it as necessary shock therapy."
For Israel, the attack coming on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War - when Egypt and Syria nearly overwhelmed Israel's armed forces - was an essential reminder that Sharon is still the daring warrior of old, the general who saved Israel in the Yom Kippur War.
It is an image Sharon prefers rather that the one that continues to cling to him as his country's defense minister who led the invasion of Lebanon in 1982, which culminated in the massacre of thousands of innocent women, children and old men, in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps.
The danger is that this week's attack on Syria will mark a risky escalation of the bloody Intifada into a regional war that could spill beyond.
"Ayria will not stand by if there is any further aggression," said Farouq al-Shara, the country's foreign minister.
In Tel Aviv, the attack is seen as a test to ascertain whether syria's still inexperienced president, Bassar Assad has the commitment of his father, Hafez, to wage war against Israel.
Damascus, too, has its war hawks who could precipitate the start of a regional war that could spread beyond.
Israel's attack has produced a ferocious response from the Arab press. It is calling for action - and sooner rather than later.
The attack came on the day the influential Jerusalem Post made Paul Wolfowitz their Man of the (Jewish) Year.
Wolfowitz's fingerprints are all over the attack on Syria. He is the author of preemption - the doctrine of attack first and talk later.
He is the Bush administration's velociraptor, a predatory dinosaur, in the pantheon of neo-cons led by Donald Runsfeld, dick Cheney, Richard Perle and Bill Kristol.
But it is Wolfowitz's voice that has come through in the posturing following the raid on Syria. It was there in Bush's claim that "Israel has the right to defend herself; that the Palestinian Authority "must do more to fight terror."
Wolfowitz is the lightning rod - the smooth talker who whispers
the words that Bush can use to justify his war on terrorism. The
accolade from The Jerusalem Post is guaranteed to make
his advice in the Oval Office even more eagerly sought.

A series of photographs indicates there may be some holes in the official explanation of what caused the collapse of the World Trade Towers.
The official explanation for the collapse of the World Trade Towers during the Sept.11 attacks is that two jetliners crashed into the skyscrapers, triggering great fires, which weakened the structural supports and caused the building to pancake.
However, new photographic evidence has some independent investigators rethinking the accepted account and looking for alternative theories to explain what really happened on the tragic day.
Retired FBI Special Agent Ted L. Gunderson has delivered a scathing letter to Attorney General John Ashcroft regarding the cover-up of events of 9-11. Gunderson cites the radio calls from the firemen attempting a rescue on the 76th and 84th floors, who were reporting explosions just prior to the collapse of the first building.
Gunderson has also offered NBC video stills of the explosions, each recorded at one-thirtieth of a second, to substantiate his charges. Ashcroft has not responded.
These photos have been taken from NBC coverage, recorded live on the morning of Sept.11, 2001.
Three of the photos span just under one second - from frames numbering 001 to 203.
Frane number 001 shows the burning towers just prior to the first collapse of the south Tower on the left. The tower that was struck second actually collapsed first – only 47 minutes after being struck. The North Tower on the right, hit 18 minutes earlier stood for 39 minutes after the South Tower collapsed. The official explanation of this was that the second building was hit lower and was carrying more weight above its collapse point.
The fire appears to be under control and, according to transcripts, the firefighters seem focused solely on finding any survivors. Experts say the black smoke indicates a smoldering fire rather than one increasing in intensity.
In frame 147 - five seconds later - a white eruption of smoke is seen from around the 78th floor.
In frame 203, a similar eruption is blowing out of the wall two or three floors lower that the previous one.
Two seconds later, at frame 255, the tower began to topple just prior to the immediate "pancaking" straight down.
Recapping the days events on the afternoon of Sept.11, Fox newsman George Weber described his fear at the time of the first collapse: "I heard a loud explosion and turned and saw the building collapsing in front of me. I was the most frightened I have ever been in my life."
A group at Columbia University had been observing the excitement that morning from a dormitory rooftop. Later in a TV interview they told of hearing small explosions echo through the air a moment before the building fell.
Firemen, policemen and bystanders on the sidewalk spoke publicly about the same sharp noises they heard before they ran for their lives.
The live TV coverage also contains a segment of morning talk show hosts Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric and an unnamed street reporter reviewing the tape of the collapse hours later. Frokaw suggest that what was seen just before the collapse may have been some king of internal explosion. The other reporter agrees.
There have been others who have made similar claims, including Dr. Van Romero, vice president at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, who later retracted his statement. Romero was the former director of the Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center at Tech.
It remains impossible to ascertain whether objects inside the
buildings were simply exploding due to the fire or whether there
was something far more ominous occurring because the physical
evidence - the remains of the building - was rapidly removed from
the site of the tragedy.

American-made Harpoon missiles, armed with nuclear warheads, are now aimed by Israel's fleet of Dolphin-class submarines against Iran's nuclear facilities.
Following September's exclusive report in American Free Press about Israel's submarine nuclear attack capability, over 100 Harpoon cruise missiles have been secretly airlifted to the remote island of Diego Garcia, a joint UK-U.S. base in the Indian Ocean.
The three Israeli submarines that arrived at the base early this month were each loaded with 24 Harpoon missiles.
They then set sail for the Gulf of Oman - bringing Iran's nuclear facilities all within range of the submarines' payloads.
The decision to launch them is entirely in the hands of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Just as Sharon gave Washington only a short warning before he gave the order to attack an alleged terrorist camp deep inside Syria, he has made it clear to Washington that the same rule of engagement will apply if it comes to launching the Harpoons.
Sharon made his position clear in a telephone call to President Bush the day after the attack on Syria.
According to one Israeli source, Bush said he "just wanted to be kept in formed."
Credible intelligence sources say the reality is that Sharon believes he would have the support of Bush if he did launch an attack.
But an indication of the deepening concern that some members of the Bush administration now feel is that National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice allowed one of her senior aides to confirm AFP's September report to The Los Angeles Times and London's Guardian newspaper.
Both drew heavily on the original American Free Press story. The senior Pentagon and State Department sources for AFP's first story about Israel's Dolphin-class submarines told AFP exclusively that, in the words of one high-level Pentagon source, "matters have now advanced considerably, and for the first time Rice is sounding alarm bells in the Oval Office."
Rice's decision to leak is also the first clear indication of her concerns over Israel - as well as her own direct challenge to the authority of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
Rice is engaged in an internal power struggle with Rumsfeld - and has chosen to use what she sees as his failure in the Middle East to harness Sharon's behavior as her launch pad to have the secretary of state ousted.
"Rice has a long-term strategy to become secretary of state. While Rumsfeld is no supporter of Powell, he knows that having Rice in charge of [the State Department] would give her more power than she even has now. And there is also the ultimate ambition for Condi to be Bush's running mate. Her own inner circle says that she would relish a face-off with Hillary Clinton in 2008. If Condi became vice president, then she is but a step away from becoming the first black woman in the White House. That is what is driving her," said a senior Washington analyst.
RICE BOILING
Meantime, Rice's concerns have deepened following Sharon's stark warning last Sunday that "states harboring terrorists are legitimate targets."
Aides in Tel Aviv have confirmed to American Free Press that "Iran and Syria are top of that list - with Iran in the top spot."
The revelation comes at a time of rapidly escalating tensions in the region.
Israel's senior Foreign Ministry spokesman, Gideon Meir, insisted "any country that harbors a threat to Israel is a legitimate target for us out of self-defense."
Today, American Free Press can reveal, again for the first time, that a team of U.S. computer specialists flew to Diego Garcia to fit the latest version of the software known as "over the horizon." This would allow a Harpoon to hit Iran's nuclear establishments with pinpoint accuracy.
Originally developed by Inslaw, the Washington-based computer software company, the over-the-horizon capability has been enhanced to handle the sophisticated electronics of the Harpoon missiles.
In the meantime, Sharon has ordered Mossad to put together
a specialist team to infiltrate Iran. Their mission is to snatch
some of the scientists working in the country's nuclear facilities
at Natanz, Arak and Saghand.

As the events of 9-11 unfolded in New York and Washington, the president remained conspicuously "out of the loop" - in Florida. The reported, but unexplained, actions of the president on that fateful morning raise a number of questions.
When the United States was attacked on the morning of 9-11, after two passenger planes had already crashed into the World Trade Center and with two other rogue aircraft approaching Washington, President Bush continued with a pre-planned photo session in a Florida elementary school. Bush's rather bizarre actions on that fateful morning raise a number of serious questions.
"It was clear that we were under attack. Why didn't the Secret Service whisk Bush out of that school?" Kristen Breitweiser, a relative of a 9-11 victim, asked Phil Donahue on his television show. "Bush is the commander-in-chief of the United States of aerica, our country was clearly under attack, it was after the second building was hit. I want to know why he sat there for 25 minutes," Breitweiser said.
In an article, "An Interesting Day: President Bush's Movements and Actions on 9-11," published in May 2003 on the website of the Center for Cooperative Research (CCR), Allan Wood and Paul Thompson ask: "Why, at 9:03 a.m. - 15 minutes after it was clear the United states was under terrorist attack - did President Bush sit down with a classroom of second-graders and begin a 20-minute pre-planned phot op?

At 8:35 a.m., Bush's motorcade left the Colony Beach resort for Emma E. Booker Elementary School in Sarasota, Fla.
At 8:46 a.m., as Flight 11 slammed into the north tower of the world Trade Center(WTC), bush's motorcade was crossing the John Ringling Causeway on the way to Booker School. Sarasota Magazine reported that Bush was on Highway 301, when he was informed that a plane had crashed into the WTC.
By 8:48 a.m. the first news reports appeared on TV and radio that a plane had crashed into the WTC.
At 8:55 a.m. Bush's motorcade arrived at Booker elementary School.
Just before 9 a.m. as Bush entered Booker elementary School, Advisor Karl Rove reportedly rushed up, too Bush aside in a corridor, and told him about the calamity. Rove says the cause of the crash was unclear. Bush replied, "What a horrible accident!" according to the photographer Draper.
However, in a later recollection, Bush said it was chief of staff Andrew Card who first informed him, saying: "Here's what you're going to be doing; you're going to meet so-and-so, such-and-such." And Andy Card says, "By the way, an aircraft flew into the world Trade Center."
Others reported that just after Bush arrived at Booker he was whisked into a room and updated on the situation via telephone by National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice.
School principal Gwen Tose-Figell was reportedly summoned to talk with the president: "He said a commercial plane has hit the World Trade Center, and we're going to go ahead and go on, we're going on to do the reading thing anyway.
Bush later made the following statement: "And I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower - the TV was obviously on, and I used to fly myself", and I said, "There's one terrible pilot." And I said, "It must have been a horrible accident. But I was wished off there - I didn't have much time to think about it."
A Boston Herald article asked later: "Think about that. Bush's remark implies he saw the firs plane hit the tower. But we all know that video of the first plane hitting did not surface until the next day. Could Bush have meant he saw the second plane hit - which many Americans witnessed? No, because he said that he was in the classroom when card whispered in his ear that a second plane hit."
The article pointed out that Bush had told the story more than once, and asked, "How could the commander-in-chief have seen the plane fly into the first building - as it happened?"
At 9:03 and 9:06 a.m. Bush was reportedly in Sandra Kay Daniels' second-grade class for a photo-op to promote his education policies. He was introduced to the children and posed for pictures. The teacher then led the students through some reading exercises.
Bush later claimed that while he was doing this lesson, he thought about what he would say about the WTC crash: "I was concentrating on the program at this point, thinking about what I was going to say. Obviously, I felt it was an accident. I was concerned about it, but there were no alarm bells."
At 9:06 as the children got their books from under their seats to read a story together, Chief of Staff Andrew Card told Bush of the second WTC crash. Card reportedly entered the room and whispered into his ear, "A second plane hit the other tower, America is under attack."
At this critical moment, Bush the Nation's commander-in-chief, did not leave the classroom, but stayed and listened as 16 Booker Elementary School second-graders took turns reading a story about a girl's pet goat, called "Pet Goat."
According to the Tampa Tribune, Bush picked up the book and read with the children "for eight or nine minutes." in unison, the children read out loud.
Bush listened and asked the children a few questions. "Really good readers, whew!" the president said, "These must be sixth-graders!"
In the back of the room, Fleischer held up a pad of paper with instructions for the president: "DON'T SAY ANYTHING YET."
Meanwhile in Washington, Vice President Dick Cheney and Rice were taken to the underground bunker at the White House.
According to the Sarasota Sheriff Bill Balkwill, after Bush entered the classroom a Marine carrying Bush's phone approached Balkwill and asked, "Can you get me to a television? We're not sure what's going on, but we need to see a television."
Three Secret Service agents, a SWAT member, the Marine and Balkwill turned on the television in a nearby front office just as Flight 175 crashes into the WTC. "We're out of here," the Marine tells Balkwill. "Can you get everyone ready?"
At 9:16 Bush left the classroom where he has been since about 9:03. On leaving Bush advised the children to stay in school and be good citizens. He also told the children, "Thank you all so very much for showing me your reading skills."
Thompson notes that Bush stayed at the school until 9:34 although "some of Bush's security wanted him to leave the school immediately." Bush remained at Booker School for 28 minutes after being informed of the second plane striking the WTC.
As he left the Classroom a reporter asked, "Mr President, are you aware of the reports of the plane crash in New York? Is there any..."
An aide interrupted the reporter and said, "All right. Thank you. If everyone could please step outside."
Bush said, "We'll talk about it later."
Bush spoke with Tose-Rigell and went to an empty classroom to meet with his staff.
Between 9:16 and 9:29 a.m. Bush reportedly worked with his staff to prepare a speech. He watched some television coverage and spoke with Rice, Cheney and New York Governor George Pataki.
At 9:29 a.m. Bush gave a brief speech to about 200 Booker students, teachers and reporters. He said, "Today we've had a national tragedy. Two airplanes have crashed into the World Trade Center in an apparent terrorist attack on our country."
At 9:34 a.m. Bush's motorcade left Booker elementary School for Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport.
In the air on Air Force One, Bush spoke with Cheney on the phone. Cheney reportedly recommended that Bush authorize the military to shoot down any plane under control of the hijackers.
"You bet," Bush later recalled saying.
"If this decision was so easy to make, why wasn't it given earlier?" Thompson asks.
At this point Bush began his sojourn around the country on Air Force One. At the end of the day, Bush returned to Washington and addressed the nation.
At 11:30 p.m. before going to sleep, Bush wrote in his diary,
"The Pearl Harbor of the 21st century took place today....We
think it's Osama bin Laden," The Washington Post reported.

Two politically diverse House members - Reps. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) and Ron Paul (R-Tex.) - have introduced the "True Patriot Act" to restore rights lost under the original "Patriot Act."
Reps. Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul have introduced the Benjamin Franklin True Patriot Act (H.R. 3171) to repeal most of the controversial sections in the original Patriot Act and restrain more egregious actions by the Justice Department.
"Twenty-four months after the Sept. 11 attacks, this nation has undergone a dramatic political change, leading to an assault on the U.S. Cnstitution and Bill of Rights," Kucinich said on the House floor when he introduced the legislation. The True Patriot Act quotes Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty or safety."
The bill has 20 more co-sponsors, and many more are expected as congressmen hear from their constitutents. It has been endorsed by the American Civil Liberties Union and diverse groups.
Eleven sections of the original Patriot Act would become null and void 90 days after enactment of the True Patriot Act. The president could ask Congress to hold hearings to determine whether a particular section should be removed from the repeal list during the 90-day period. Congress could accept or reject the request.
REPEALING BAD LAW
The true patriot Act would repeal Section 213 of the original, which authorized property to be searched and seized in secret by government agants without notifying the subject of a warrant.
It ends the use of pen registers, which record all numbers dialed from a person's telephone, and repeals authorization for federal agent s to search library, bookstore, medical, financial religious and travel records without a judicial warrant.
Federal agents' authority to conduct searches without a warrant which conflicts with the Fourth Amendment, would be eliminated. Nor could FBI agents issue national security letters to obtain financial, bank and credit records of individuals without a court order or judicial oversight.
A speech-chilling provision that defines the new crime of "domestic terrorism" so broadly that political protests could be so designated would be repealed.
Attorney-client privilege would be restored and federal agents
could no longer eavesdrop on their conversations. It would eliminate
suppression of the Freedom of Information Act.

Although the establishment has chosen to ignore the fact that "noxious energy" or ration, deep under the ground, can rise up and kill unwitting victims in their homes, several scientists have proven it over the years.
Many years ago French investigators found a connection between radiation originating deep underground and cancer. Called noxious energy it is generated in "geopathic zones" associated with water veins, faults in the underlying rock and geomagnetic grid lines.
Before World War II Pierre Cody, a French engineer, used an electrometer to detect ions in the cellars of houses underneath mor that 7,000 cancer beds in a seven year study.
In one case he placed an electrometer directly below the cancerous growth of a woman, who had recently died, when she was lying in bed. It picked up 10 times more ions than a second device six feet away. The same result was obtained when the second electrometer was placed seventeen inches away. Cody concluded that the radiation, whatever it was, rose vertically out of the ground and did not diffuse laterally.
He placed a lead sheet under an electrometer standing over one of these noxious energy zones and found that it took 49 minutes to discharge whereas only seven seconds were needed without the lead sheet. He also found that peacock blue and canary yellow patches appeared on the underside of these leas sheets when they were left in place over such noxious zones for more than a month.
Applying this knowledge to 491 cases of illness associated with geopathic zones, he found that a lead sheet under the bed resulted in increased pain for several weeks, followed by marked improvement. Many people were healed if the lead sheets were replaced often enough. However, illnesses took a turn for the worse suddenly, after several months, if the sheets were not replaced.
Louis le Prince-Ringuet, an eminent physicist, director of the Duke Louis de Broglie Laboratory in Paris, supported Cody's study. His book, Experimental Study of Air Ionization by Certain Radioactivity in the Soil and its Influence on Human Health, details the results of this investigation. Unfortunately the French Medical Establishment ignored it.
A Swiss nuclear physicist, Angelo Communetti, with the help of two dowsers, employees of Hoffman-La Roche who located water supplies worldwide for the company, confirmed some of Cody's suspicions. He found that two reaction zones, each about two yards wide, correlated with a water vein feeding a well with large quantities of water, penetrated all floors of a five story building. The dowsing reaction had the same force on all floors even though three layers of heavily reinforced concrete separated the top floor from the bottom.
Communetti called the unidentified radiation the D-agent, where C stood for Dowsing.
In the 1960s at Moulins in France, Dr. J. Picard spent none years recording the location of 282 cancer deaths. Then Joseph Stangle was invited to come from German with his scintillation counter, Dowser on Wheels to see what he could find.
In one house a 12-year-old boy died from a sarcoma on the right side of his body. Subsequently a nine-year-old boy, from another family, died from a sarcoma on the right side of his body after sleeping in the same bed as the first victim.
Stangle found radiation which he associated with water viens under the house where these boys had died. He made similar finds at many other houses wher cancer deaths had occurred.
Dr. Picard never published the results of this study. He feared reprisals against his practice by the French medical establishment which was unwilling to admit the connection between noxious radiation and cancer.

The Lucrative arrangement Between the Food & Drug Administration and the Pharmaceutical Makers
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has become dependent on the multibullion-dollar drug industry that it's supposed to police. With virtually no public debate, Congress has passed a law that dramatically increases the FDA's dependence on large drug companies for its funding. It's an expansion of a law passed in 1992 intended to speed up the approval process for new AIDS medications.
The FDA was running out of money to keep its new employees. Going before Congress and asking for more money amidst a "war on terrorism" was going to be a tough fight, so the drug companies offered an easier solution: Negociate a deal in secret; attach it to the widely popular bioterrorism bill, and the drug companies would pay for the FDA's new employees and much more.
The details of discussions leading to this "solution were never made public. According to The Washington Post, the program was created in private meetings between the industry and the FDA. It was never debated or voted on in either chamber before going to the negotiators. Currently, it's moving forward before a General Accounting Office (GAO) review of the program can be finished and made public.
According to the Post, the user fees from pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies would add almost 500 employees to the FDA centers that review proposed new drugs. That would bring the FDA workforce funded by the drug industry to at least 1,530. And that would constitute more than 55 percent of the FDA staff involved in reviewing drug applications.
The price of the FDA sellout was $1.2 billion over the next five years.
The GAO report is expected to reveal how well the public hared under a program of drug company support for the FDA's drug approval process. But the truth probably won't come out: Over the last 10 years, the FDA has approved none drugs that proved to have deadly side effects. The Journal of the American Medical Association estimates that 125,000 Americans die each year from the side effects of FDA-approved drugs.
The FDA approved the sale of Baycol (later found to cause fatal rhabdomyolysis) and continues to approve the use of other "satin drugs" to lower cholesterol that are also associated with this deadly side effect.
Beefed up by drug company funds, the FDA has aggressively suppressed natural alternatives to drugs. Fed yeast rice, for example, known to be a safe and effective alternative to cholesterol-lowering drugs, was banned by the FDA in 2001.
The next time you are offered a drug, ask questions. Why do I have to take it? If I take it, what's the plan to get me back off? Are there alternatives? What are the side effects? How can I get more information.?
Most importantly, keep yourself healthy. If you need help to
get back to good health, choose as natural a therapy as possible.
You will be less vulnerable to dangerous pharmaceutical products
that are spawned from a questionable approval process.

Processed sugar is poison for the body and is the cause behind numerous ailments. People are addicted to its taste and find it nearly impossible to avoid, but safe and healthy alternatives are increasingly available.
As supermarket aisles perpetuate another generation of dental decay, obesity, weakened bones, diabetes, hyperactivity, emotional imbalance and dysfunctional immune systems, the compelling question is why people consume sugar, and especially, why they give sugar to children.
In Australia, people eat about 143 pounds of the stuff a year or 35 teaspoons a day. And it's in everything - chicken soup, pickles, pork and beans, most peanut butter, jams and jellies, bread, macaroni and cheese, ketchup, mustard and relish, yogurt, canned fruits and vegetables, salad dressings and sauces, not to mention the endless list of desserts, stuffed to capacity with sugar.
The white crystalline substance known s sugar is a substance produced by industrial processes (mostly from sugar cane or sugar beets) by refining it down to pure sucrose, after stripping away all the vitamins, minerals, proteins, enzymes and other beneficial nutrients.
Sugar quickly passes through the stomach wall causing blood sugar levels to rise, then plummet. First, the blood sugar level skyrockets and causes the pancreas to secrete insulin to compensate for the excess blood sugar. Afterward, the blood sugar level drops below normal. This state has been coined the "sugar blues." The downside of the sugar blues is a state of depression, lethargy and irritability.
SUGAR DOES DAMAGE
The reasons sugar does damage include:
Sugar, through refining, has been stripped of most of the nutrition it originally had in the plant itself. Sugar is pressed as a juice from the cane or beet and refined into molasses. Then it is refined into a brownish raw sugar (not to be confused with brown sugar), and finally into white crystals know th chemists as alpha-D-glucopyranosyl-beta-D-fructofuranoside or sucrose (chemical formula C12H22O11) a disaccharide composed of glucose combined with fructose, both of which are six carbon sugars (monosaccharides).
Sugar is addictive. Starting with sugar in baby formula, people develop a strong taste for sugar. With that comes an insatiable craving that never recedes.
If you examine the "foods" in any supermarket closely and start reading labels, you will find just about everything contains sugar. Must of the foods are loaded with it - from cereals, to soups, to sauces, to sausages. Even flue-cured tobacco can contain as much as 20 percent sugar by weight. Som "cereals" are as much as 50 percent sugar.
Sugar plays a role in the cause of many modern illnesses and disorders. Most people already suspect its effect on children and adults who exhibit disruptive behavior and learning disorders.
What damage does sugar do in the human body?
* Sugar is the leading cause of dental deterioration - cavities, bleeding gums, failure of bone structure and loss of teeth.
* The main cause of diabetes, hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia . Sir Frederick Banting, the co-discoverer of insulin, noticed in 1929 in Panama that among sugar plantation owners who ate large amounts of the refined stuff, diabetes was common. Among native can-cutters who only got to chew the raw cane, he saw no diabetes.
* It is either a significant factor in or a contributing cause of hear disease arteriosclerosis, mental illness, depression, senility, hypertension and cancer.
* It has a harmful effect on endocrine system balance and damages its component glands such as the adrenal glands, pancreas and liver, causing the blood sugar level to fluctuate widely. It also has a number of other extremely damaging effects on the human body.
* It can initiate autoimmune and immune deficiency disorders such as arthritis, allergies and asthma.
Some of the other effects of sugar on the body include: Stimulating the growth of candida yeast organism; increased chronic fatigue; binge eating in those with bulimia; increased PMS symptoms; increased hyperactivity in about 50 percent of children; and increased anxiety and irritability. Sugar can also make it difficult to lose weight because of high insulin levels which cause the body to store excess carbs as fat.
HISTORY OF SUGAR
Sugar has been around for several thousand years, but it was practically unknown and formed an insignificant part of the average diet in the classical civilizations of Egypt, Greece and Rome. The Greeks (who had a word for nearly everything) did not even have a word for it. Even in medieval Europe it was practically unknown and only found as a rare delicacy in the royal courts.
During the last major crusade that ended in 1204, some of the Christian crusaders were introduced to sugar used by the Saracens.
The Moors, when invading and colonizing the southern part of Spain, grew sugar can and refined sugar. When Spain drove out the Moors, it inherited some of the cane plantations. It was during this time that Christendom took itws first big bite of the forbidden fruit and liked it.
SAFE ALTERNATIVES
Avoiding refined sugar in the modern world is virtually impossible, although cutbacks can be achieved by checking labels at supermarkets and reducing the amount of sugar used in beverages. Families with children will find it extremely difficult to cut sugar from the diet.
One of the best sources of natural sugar is found in raw fruits and vegetables. These natural sugars are bound up with essential vitamins, minerals, fiber, oils and enzymes that are present in whole plant foods. These aid in the metabolic processes necessary for digestion of the sugars. In addition, the sugars in natural whole foods arrive in the body diluted in a large volume of water to assist in their metabolism.
There is a safe substitute to refined sugar: a naturally occurring sweetener called xylitol. Pure xylitol is a white, crystalline substance that looks and tastes like sugar. Technically, it is a sugar alcohol (polyhydric alcohol) of the penitol type. Thus, while glucose and fructose are simple sugars with six carbons, xylitol has five carbons, which prevents the formation of acids that cause tooth decay. Its sweetness is equal to sugar but it contains 40 percent fewer calories and 75 percent fewer carbohydrates than sugar.
Xylitol was discovered almost simultaneously by German and French chemists in the late 19th century. In the Soviet Union it has been used for decades as a sweetener for diabetics and in Germany it is used in solutions for intravenous feeding. In china, xylitol has been used for various medical purposes. Xylitol is recommended for diabetics, since it does not require insulin to be metabolized.
The fact xylitol does not harm teeth was publicized in Finland in the early 1970s when scientists at Turku University showed it could prevent cavities.
Many other countries including Russia, Japan, Germany, Italy and China have been producing xylitol for use in their domestic markets, with remarkable health benefits. It has been relatively unknown in this country because cheap supplies of cane sugar made the more expensive xylitol less economically viable.
Look for the product, xylitol, in your local health food store.

What do you call a highly refined wheat product that has been stripped of its nutrients? Well, add back some of those lost vitamins and minerals, and the government calls it enriched flour.
Believing the government's decision to call a refined food "enriched" is based on science, naive folk in the nutrition community promote enriched white flour as the equivalent of a mortician declaring the deceased is alive, when, in fact, the embalmed corpse only looks alive.
"Enriching" a nutritionally dead food got its start in the midst of World War II. The government in the interests of boosting the war effort wanted to boost the quality of the American diet. Officials chose the staff of life, bread, as their vehicle for improvement.
This is where culture and politics enter. The idea of persuading a population raised on the white cottony stuff to switch to whole grain seemed politically impracticable. People loved the easily chewed, bland, white bread. That brown, whole-wheat stuff? Only health nuts ate it.
Dietitians assured those who worried about nutritional value that the only difference between the two breads was lack of thiamin (vitamin B1) in white bread.
Curiously, they made this argument in spite of experiments by Prof. H. Chick, from the Lister Institute, in Cambridge, England. Chick fed rats white flour bread enriched with thiamin and found the rats did "poorly" compared to rats fed bread made from whole-wheat flour.
Nevertheless, H.W. Sebrell, an influential nutrition scientist of the time, made a ringing statement in favor of enriching white flour with thiamin and two more B vitamins. The upshot: the wartime government decided white flour should be enriched with three B vitamins and one mineral: niacin, riboflavin, thiamin and iron.
The editors of the authoritative journal, Nutrition Reviews (1943), were dismayed at the government's decision to go ahead with enrichment. The wartime British government faced with the same issue had opted to manufacture a less refined flour. The editors addressed the fundamental question of whether or not adding three B vitamins and iron to one food product improves the nutritional status of the nation.
They wrote: "It is a curious fact that enrichment of white flour and white bread was promulgated with little direct experimental evidence to demonstrate the value of such a proposal to the human being."
Until the nineteenth century, millers ground grain between two stones, one stationary, one rotating. Then a Hungarian invented the roller mill. The grain passes between serrated steel rollers, one rotating twice as fast as the other. The result: the rain kernel is torn apart rather than being ground.
Roller ripping revolutionized the manufacture and refining of flour. Ripping enables the miller to separate the three main parts of a grain kernel, the outer layer or bran, which contains most of the B vitamins and mineral, the germ or embryo, which contains essential fatty acids and vitamin E, and the endosperm or starch.
With stone-ground flour, the bran can be easily sieved out. The germ and endosperm, however, remain. But with roller-ground flour, the germ can also be separated and discarded. Bakers were now able to produce loaves of white bread devoid of bran and germ, to say nothing of the vitamins and minerals the whole grain one contained.
Siegfried Giedion, in his book The Mechanization of the Organic, comments: "The bread-making process refuses to be hastened beyond narrow limits, for mechanization here encounters a substance whose laws are inviolable. Whenever mechanization encounters a living substance, bacterial or animal, almost indifferently it is the organic substance that determines the law.
Giedion had not reckoned on the power of chemistry. By 1890 the modern, automated flour mill was in use in America and Europe. The mechanical aspects of flour and bread making had seemingly gone about as far as they could go. Millers and bakers, as Giedion points out, still had to contend with a living substance. Grain quality varies from harvest to harvest and from farm to farm. Millers and bakers had to second-guess how each batch would behave.
However, modern manufactures demand uniformity. A bakery turning out a million loaves of white bread a day wants flour that gives one million identical loaves. The chemical industry obliged with - with chorine.
Chlorine, a potent poison, does two things. First, it bleaches - that is, it destroys the yellowish pigments in the flour. The pigment is actually carotene, which your body converts into vitamin A.
Second, chorine matures the flour by reacting with the gluten. The chlorinated flour makes a more elastic dough, better able to hold the carbon dioxide produced by the yeast.
Chemical treatment of the flour, a boon to millers, brings all batches of flour up to a pre-set standard. Millers and bakers use several other chemicals, all with the same goal of leveling inconsistencies in the organic nature of the flour, producing a chalk-white product.
Here are some of the chemicals they use: aluminum chloride, azocarbonamide, benzoyl peroxide, calcium propionate, calcium sulfate, chorine dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, potassium bromate and potassium iodate.
You won't find any of these chemicals in the home kitchen. Only trained personnel, wearing protective gear can use them. Does all this bleaching, maturing and adding a list of toxic chemicals to flour and white bread add to nutritional value? Not one wit.
Then, are they that harmful? The chemical residues in baked products may be small and not immediately threatening to health. But such highly aggressive chemicals leave other sorts of residues.
They react with components of the flour creating a variety of byproducts. The byproducts remain in the flour and thus in the products baked from the flour. The toxic effects on human consumers of the chemically treated baked goods have never been investigated. The manufacturers seem to have the attitude, "if there are any problems with these residues, we don't want to know.
The enriched, white flour made from wheat introduced in the 1940s remained the government standard for almost 60 years. The only change occurred in 1995, when a fourth B vitamin was added to the mandatory standard, folic acid (folate).
From a cell's-eye view, enriched white flour lacks whole wheat flour's nutritional depth. Three B vitamins erased during refining - biotin, pantothenic acid and pyridoxine (B6) - are not restored. Vitamin E is a casualty of bleaching. Essential fatty acids are discarded in part of the unwanted germ. And then there's bran. Not nutritional perhaps, but bran sure helps to make digestion more efficient and the bowels regular.
If enriched white flour were a small part of a person's diet, the argument could be made that folks get missing vitamins and minerals in other foods. But enriched white flour appears in so many common American foods: breads rolls, hamburger buns, muffins, all kinds of baked goods, to say nothing of pastas and crackers.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture makes grains the base of its food pyramid. For Americans, two grains make up that base: enriched white flour from wheat and white rice. White rice like enriched white flour has lost its spectrum of vitamins and minerals. A curious combo to form the base of the country's nutritional well being.
The original wartime idea, of trying to enrich the American diet by enriching white flour, still prevails. In fact, modern food manufacturers have expanded the list of products they now enrich (fortify), from breakfast cereal to candy bars.
But the manufacturers have failed to do what proponents of
enriched white flour also failed to do back in the 1940s. They
haven't demonstrated that "enrichment" of a highly refined
food, loaded with chemical additives, benefits the human being.

The healthy summer lifestyle is well celebrated - all that wholesome, outdoor exercise. But winter has health advantages too - you'll eat less ice cream.
The average American poisons himself with 23.7 quarts of ice cream a year - mostly in the summer. Ice cream producers are not required to list certain additives they use - and if they did, you would probably avoid the stuff. Most of the 14,000 different commercial ice creams are highly synthetic.
Almost all ice cream flavors, for example, come from chemical factories. Some of the artificial flavors are potent poisons, powerful enough to cause liver, kidney and heart damage.
Some ice creams do have only natural flavors; but others have a mixture of natural and artificial flavors; and some contain only artificial flavors.
Piperonal, a chemical used to treat lice infestations, is used to produce vanilla flavoring. It is made from the wastes of wood pulp and has no relationship to the vanilla bean (the fruit of a tropical orchid). But natural vanilla is more expensive.
Benzyl acetate is a synthetic chemical that produces a strawberry-like flavor. The Merck Index, an encyclopedia for chemists, warns that this substance can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
Ethyl acetate is used by many to produce a pineapple flavor. This substance can cause liver, kidney and heart damage.
Aldehyde C 17 is a flammable liquid used in aniline dyes, plastic and rubber - and to give ice cream a cherry flavor.
Butraldehyde is one of the ingredients in rubber cement and in nut-flavored ice creams.
Diethyl glycol is a chemical used in antifreeze and paint remover. Because it is cheap, it is used in ice cream as an emulsifier instead of eggs. The index says it is sufficiently toxic to cause liver and kidney damage.
Other additives commonly used in ice cream include: propylene glycol, glycerin, sodium carboxy methylcellulose, monoglyceride, diglyceride, disodium phosphates, tetrasodium pyrosphate, polysorbate 80 and sodium sulfosucciphate. Law permits all.
Homemade ice cream, using only natural products, is safe and
enjoyable, as are organic ice creams, frozen yogurts and sherbets
and vegan tofu-based "ice cream." But the next time
you're tempted by the offerings in the grocery store or a restaurant,
think of what you would be putting into your body.
