The reception accorded THE SENTINELS OF NEW AMERICA has been far beyond all expectation, the endorsement of the principles and platform outlined unanimous and the entire large first edition exhausted within two weeks after publication, necessitation a second and much larger edition.

In an organization truly American, the opinions of those favorable to it and of its membership must be given serious thought. While there has not been a single adverse criticism received up to the time we go to press with the present edition, many letters have been received, and several of these are worthy of consideration.

First, we quote from a letter written by an official member of one of America's largest Labor Committees:

"There must be millions of Americans who would join with you, if given the opportunity, in your efforts to awaken in the hearts of those who love this glorious country of ours a full realization of the peril that confronts our democratic form of government and the principles of liberty for which our fathers so bitterly and gallantly fought and died. Surely those same millions of us have seen or felt the encroachment of the destructive hordes of foreign-born enemies in our midst whose entire efforts are expended in destroying a benevolent democracy whose liberalism and tolerance have made it possible for these parasites to promote their nefarious schemes under the absolving protection of the very institution they would destroy. Millions have seen or felt all this. It remained, however, for you and your associates to not only have comprehended this peril, but to have the intellect to offer a sound basis of attack against such efforts and the fortitude and patriotism to carry the banner into the thick of the fight. The applause and cheers that emanated from the portals of Heaven from the framers and signers of the Declaration of Independence at your decision to carry on their fight for liberty must have been thunderous in its volume."

It was encouragement such as this which gave to our forefathers the strength and the fortitude to fight for their freedom, even though a powerful and rich country with a vast, well-trained army was arrayed against them. It is such encouragement which today urges all men who truly love their liberty onward and forward to repeat that great victory of the past against the foreign hordes and inimical interests seeking to destroy these liberties and the lives and right to property of the great American people. Alone, we can do little more than write the new BILL OF RIGHTS, but with the endorsement and active help of all who love their country, their freedom of unselfish action, their families, homes and right to individual effort to achieve, a new and greater freedom is possible.

Another correspondent, in this instance not an official, but a plain American, a master mechanic, writes:

"Your plan of August 10th placed before me a practical solution to a question that has been troubling me for several years, namely: How to actually aid in preserving the original spirit and Idea back of Building up a New World in America.

"I firmly believe that all true citizens of the United States have the spirit of the original ideal within them, but that it has been well-nigh covered by subsequent events. I believe, however, that most of these people will have to be ‘hit on the head with a mallet' before they can be fully aroused to the necessity of protecting this basic idea."

This is an opinion most frequently expressed by those who fully realize the danger confronting us. It is undoubtedly true that in all too numerous instances the protective spirit is fast asleep. This is in part due to the belief helf by many that "it cannot happen here," despite the fact that it is already happening here on a small scale, and an equally fullish idea that it is not the duty of the individual to worry about such matters; that the Sate and Federal Government will attend to it, forgetful of the fact that the State and Federal Government is made up of individuals, and these, failing to act or virilly indicating their desires, neither State nor Federal Government will do so.

Our efforts, yours as well as mine, are to arouse the mass to the grave dangers confronting us as a nation and a people and then get the individual to act. In accomplishing this alone is our hope for the future of the race.

Another correspondent, who whole-heartedly approves the work the Sentinels are engaged in, questions the correctness of the figures given on page one of the present booklet.

Our figures are based on the authorities quoted in the booklet, investigations being carried on by responsible agencies and, lastly, the number of members claimed by the various organizations teaching subversive doctrines such as Fascism, Naziism, Communism and Nihilism. If the figures are in error, and if the membership claimed by these organizations is supported by investigation, then there is but one conclusion possible, a most dispiriting one:

The membership must be in part composed of Americans, of men and women American born, who should be good American citizens; men and women who are blessed with all the benefits and advantages their American birthright confers upon them, but who use them all for the purpose of helping to destroy all that should be dear to the American heart. If that is true, then it were far better if all these men and women wer aliens, because they could be properly dealt with, while American citizens have privileges, even though used reprehensibly, which cannot be interfered with.

In our OPEN LETTER to Senators, Congressmen, Representatives and All American Citizens we frankly stated: "The approach to the problem is in itself difficult, for there is no absolutely dependable source for the statistics that would provide the/our premise." Reports of customs and immigration are extremely faulty, for the reason that the smuggling of aliens is a daily, aye, hourly, occurrence, and until we have a reliable system of enforced registration it will be impossible to learn just how many aliens are actually in America.

The United States of America stands head and shoulders above all other nations in opportunities offered its citizens.

The building of huge industries, the encouragement of inventive ingenuity, the prospect of a factory laborer becoming an industrialist, the possibility of any man becoming successful beyond the average, the lack of class distinction, the freedom of thought and action, all are typical of American life and liberty.

American ideals are among the loftiest on the face of the earth. American freedom of action is unsurpassed by any other nation. American standards of living are on an infinitely higher basis than anywhere else on earth.

Every American-born or naturalized citizen (we make no distinction between the two) has a heritage which makes him the sole arbiter of his own life.

He is free to choose his own life work, is not hindered by class distinction, and can make of himself and his life whatever he desires.

This is what is known as American Democracy.

This is that which has made America the most powerful nation on earth.

This is why the people of all the earth have learned to look to America for the betterment of humanity, comprising inventions and labor-saving devices and, of even greater importance, the raising of the standard of living so that today the average American, even in periods of change and depression, has more conveniences and greater enlightenment than were possible even for kings less than half a century ago.

But, alas, these very ideals, these unlimited opportunities, these greater possessions and possibilities have aroused in others not so fortunate the envy and greed to either unlawfully posses these benefits and privileges for themselves, or destroy them so that none other might have them. As a result, within a few years, due to the infiltration of foreign ideas, the spirit of destruction has permeated the minds of the people and roams over the land today as never thought possible in a nation so favored. Even our own American-born sons have become inoculated by these subversive and destructive doctrines.

Every newspaper heralds daily new strikes and violence. Needless, nay criminal, destruction of life and property are daily occurrences, and all for what purpose?

Just four weeks have passed since the completion of the large second edition of THE SENTINELS OF NEW AMERICA. It is now necessary to issue a third and still larger edition.

Since the publication of the second edition, the Dies Committee, investigation "un-American" organizations and foreign propaganda in this country, has been holding meetings and gathering an immense amount of information. The revelations thus far made, even if but half true, have been of a nature to prove that most of the statements made in the Sentinel literature are not only correct, but actually mild in comparison with the actual facts. Unquestionably, as these investigations continue, still more significant and disquieting conditions will be uncovered.

We have been questioned in but one respect: our figures as to the number of aliens in America. We have always felt that our figures were conservative and that when the actual facts became available the picture would be far darker than anyone thought possible, and that at least part of the cause would be traced to laxity on the part of the officials.

Liberty, a magazine published in New York, and with more than two million readers, apparently substantiates this deduction. In an editorial in the issue of October 22, 1938, Benarr McFadden says in part:

"The number of officials elected in recent years who have failed to respect their oath of office presents a situation that seriously threatens the future prosperity of this nation.

"Some politicians appear to be willing to make any kind of promises...before election...but after election they cast them aside as meaningless.

"To break pre-election promises is certainly reprehensible, but to ignore one's oath of office after assuming official duties is far worse. The principles of the Constitution of the United States should be sacredly maintained at least by officials, and when they swear to uphold them and then fail to do so, penalties of a serious nature should be exacted.

"When Madam Perkins took her oath of office she promised to protect the Constitution and be guided by its principles. Could it be maintained she had the Constitution in mind when she stated that the legality of the sit-down strike had not yet been settled? Has she followed the principles of our Constitution when she refuses to take action to deport Harry Bridges, not withstanding the complaints and charges made against him by innumerable reputable citizens?

"It has been maintained that the present Secretary of Labor has cost this country hundreds of millions of dollars, perhaps billions. Her attitude toward strikes has been of a nature to encourage intimidation, violence and lawlessness. She appears to have an un-American love for aliens that is difficult to analyze.

"The Immigration statistics, for example, show that fully 200,000 aliens have come to this country yearly by bribery and fraud since Madam Perkins assumed her duties.

"Last year 4000 criminal aliens were ordered deported by the courts, and they have not been deported. Some of them, it is claimed, have been out on bail since 1933. Last year more than one million aliens were on relief, and, according to the cost per unit estimated by Harry Hopkins, the expense of supporting these aliens totals nearly a billion dollars.

"There has apparently been a decrease of approximately 50 percent in deportation of alien criminals and undesirables since 1933. In 1933, 9000aliens were deported for entering the country without valid permits. In 1937 only 3294 aliens were deported for this reason.

"In 1933, 3000 aliens were deported for overstaying their permits. Last year only 702 such cases were deported."

It has not been the practice of the SENTINELS to attack personalities, especially those in official positions, and we do not propose to do so in the future. However, in the present instance it was deemed necessary to quote verbatim in order that we might disprove a miscomprehension, on the one hand, and justify our former statements, on the other.

Men and women of America! America, the most glorious country on the face of the earth, is YOUR country. Will you permit it to pass into the hands and under the control of foreign hordes, and you yourselves become vassals of a war-lord, or will you be up and doing, join hands with us, give a few moments of your time to enroll your friends and neighbors in this holy crusade, reach your state and national representatives with literature already prepared, or by personal letters, and to a small degree help to defray the expense involved? The price of a few good cegars or a box of candy weekly will do it. WHICH IS IT TO BE? INERTIA AND LOSS OF FREEDOM, or A LITTLE ACTIVE HELP, A SMALL AMOUNT OF SELF-DENIAL AND GREATER LIBERTY THAN EVER BEFORE KNOWN?

YOU MUST ANSWER FOR YOURSELF.

An analysis of those responsible for these conditions indicates that most of the proselyters and strike leaders are foreign-born. They are not citizens of America; are so inimical to American ideals that institutions that they have not made the slightest efforts to become citizens; are uninterested in themselves doing honest and constructive manual labor, and glory in their ability to incite riot and confusion among the working classes of America. They proudly boast of their power to defy lawfully instituted tribunals of justice, thereby proclaiming themselves anarchists.

That these conditions exist and steadily increase cannot be denied.

That they must be remedied if this nation is to remain free and progressive is fully recognized by thinkers and constructive statesmen.

Yet there apparently exists no agency capable or wholly willing to cope with this dangerous situation in an intelligent, practical and efficient manner because, in many instances, officials are in harmony with these destructive and subversive doctrines and practices.

Labor also represents a large percentage of the voting power on the country, and a vast number of these honest laborers have been misled into accepting communistic and like doctrines in place of sturdy Americanism. For this reason politicians often hesitate to do the things which they recognize as essential in bringing peace and harmony, stability and prosperity out of the present chaos and confusion.

State and National representatives are generally mindful of their duty. They seek to do what is right, provided, however, that such action does not reflect adversely on their political aspirations.

To induce these State and National executives to take action in an effort to bring about normalcy in the human relations between employer and employee, some form of incentive is necessary.

That "arbitration" is at present the proper basis of bringing about readjustments cannot be denied. It is were left to the workers and employers themselves, peace and harmony would be brought about with comparative ease in most instances. The complication fact is that so many self-styled and usurping leaders of the working classes have only "selfish" ideals in mind. Their actions are mostly governed by the egomaniac complex on the one hand and "What will I get out of it" selfishness on the other. Both classes realize that as long as there is strife and discord they will possess a strong hold on the workers, with resultant dominance of the mass and a large monetary compensation. Remove this, and they will lose all interest in the worker's welfare.

Selfishness dies hard and will fight to the bitter end, caring not one jot or tittle about the cost in lives, destruction of property or suffering entailed. The egomaniac is by birth and nature cruel, self-righteous, a mass-enslaver under the guise of a liberator, and never relinquishes his hold upon his followers until forced to do so by a power stronger than himself. In his own mind HE IS THE LAW. Courts of law, justice, race betterment and spiritual advancement mean nothing to such, as has been amply proven in numerous instances within the past few years.

This anomaly is made possible only as a result of mob power of an uneducated, un-American mass, and is the direct result of conferring rights and privileges upon a large number unprepared for either self-government or freedom of action. This in turn has been the result of opening the gates of America to all the world, permitting millions of undesirables to flow into the country and inoculation the drones and disgruntled found in every country, and it is this mass whom the egomaniac employs to spread subversive doctrines through contact with the workers and for mob violence.

American citizens and taxpayers are at last becoming thoroughly aroused to the fact that according to the Congressional Record of June, 1937, there are seven and one-half millions of unnaturalized foreigners in this country.

There are approximately one and one-half millions of foreigners on the relief rolls of the country. A conservative estimate is that if the relief money paid to these aliens were used in the relief of distressed Americans it would almost take care of the entire relief problem confronting us.

Because of our laxity there are three and one-half million foreigners illegally in this country who have no right whatever to be here. Many of these are criminals, or people of criminal tendencies. Many of them desperately hate American ideals and institutions and are here as the paid agents of Nihilism, Fascism, Naziism, Communism and other isms equally destructive and therefor more dangerous to true Americanism and American interests than if they were downright criminals.

Worst of all for the welfare and recovery of the country, there are six million unnaturalized foreigners holding down good mobs which should be filled by Americans. THINK! If there are twelve million people lacking employment and if there are six million in positions to which they have no right, then these six million usurpers removed, the other six million - AMERICANS - would have employment and our depression would be a nightmare of the past.

Kf these Americans lacking jobs were incapable, there might be an excuse for employing aliens during a depression, but these American citizens are, in the main, both capable and willing, and it is the DUTY of America to consider the needs of Americans firs, just as, admittedly, it is the duty of any country to look after the welfare of its own citizens before giving attention to those alien to the country.

There can be no feeling against the foreign-born who have accepted our ideals and institutions and become citizens or those who come here with the honest intention of doing so. These should receive the same recognition as the American-born. But the alien who enters our shores with the sole intention of disrupting our peace and destroying our ideals or for self-profit with out accepting all of the responsibilities the American-born assumes has no right here and is not wanted by those who have the interest of America at heart.

There is sound reason when the governmental indebtedness is increased in helping unfortunate American citizens to pass through an unfortunate period. Taxpayers almost universally are willing to meet all just demands, but a mighty wave of protest is now gathering force against compelling Americans to sacrifice effort, money and even their business interests wherewith to support millions who have no right whatever to be in this country and who, while being supported, are, in baseness of spirit, doing all in their power to undermine and destroy all that is truly American.

How is this foreign horde of nearly six million, now illegally in America employed?

A résumé of their activities is sufficient to shatter the hope and courage of all but the stoutest hearts. The knowledge is sufficient to cause us fear that our ideals and beloved institutions are all but doomed and must eventually fall a prey to either Anarchy, Naziism, Fascism, Communism or other equally destructive isms. This is all the more possible when we are compelled to recognize that many of those American-born have been converted and subscribe to one or the other of these doctrines and willingly work with these foreign leaders, and that politically minded officials in numerous states permit some of these subversive organizations to publicly display their allegiance to foreign powers and to sneer at America, Americans and the country that provides them homes and sustenance.

A conservative estimate of the various un-American activities active in this country is as follows:

There are three times as many members of the Communist Party and its affiliate movements in America today as there were in Russia at the time the revolution overthrew the Russian Government and massacred some five million innocent white Russians in clod-blooded butchery, destroyed property of untold value, and took all rights and liberties from the people, even from those in favor of the most cruel, inhuman and bloody revolution of all times.

There are twice as many members in communistic and affiliate movements in the United States today as there are in the Communist Party of Russia, which subjugates 168,000,000 native Russians to a virtual enslavement. This being true, what will happen to Americans, their wives, their children, and their homes, if these aliens be permitted to remain here until they are prepared and ready to act?

There are hundreds of communistic camps and schools active in the United States. In the July issue of the national Republic published in Washington, D.C., fifty such camps are listed, practically all of which are in the three states of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. All of these are engaged in teaching the communistic doctrines of Stalin, instructing both the youths and elders in doctrines diametrically opposite to Americanism.

There are 610 national communistic and affiliate organization, with thousands of state and local branches, in the United States.

These are 300 communistic newspapers and magazines, printed in many languages, circulated in the United States, all with the intent and purpose of converting Americans to their pernicious doctrines.

There are published annually in the United States millions of pamphlets and books on Marxism, Communism, Naziism, Fascism and other subversive subjects.

Before proceeding with an exposition of this inimical activity it might be well for all Americans paying taxes to inquire: How are such huge expenditures for propaganda financed? The answer has already been given in part: There are six million unnaturalized aliens in America holding jobs and one and one-half million are on relief rolls. How much of this money, paid out by America and Americans, is used in the constant and never-ending attempt to overthrow American Democracy and its institutions? Is it not high time we demand an answer to that important question? Should not American legislators act of their own volition before an angered taxpaying public forces them to do so?

Moscow maintains, through its agents who are either aliens or converted Americans, thirty-three Internationals of communists, atheists, pacifists, and other revolutionary activities in the United States. These movements are directed from Moscow, and from the Internationals hundreds of national movements, with thousands of local branches, cover every part of America.

In all the activities of youths the communists maintain thousands of local dance schools, clubs, groups and every other form of gathering wherein are taught revolutionary doctrines and practices.

The United States is now mapped into twenty-six districts, 15,000 or more sections, many thousands of units for the efficient propaganda of communism.

So bold has become this foreign subversive element and so great a freedom granted these aliens, that Fritz Kuhn, the self-styled fuehrer of the German-American Bund, a Nazi organization openly and freely operating in America, frankly stated before a legislative committee that they had centers in ninety-four cities in America, that they maintained twenty-two summer camps, four newspapers and a business men's league to "counter-boycott" Jews.

How many of these members are Americans and how many of them are aliens illegally in America and supported by American taxpayers?

Nor was this all. This Americanized German, who lives in America and openly supports Naziism, boldly charged that the Rothchilds, through Kuhn, Loeb & Co. and the Warburgs, control the Democratic and Republican parties. In other words, that the two major parties are controlled by a Jewish combine and international bankers; that, therefore, America is sold to the Jews. How bold have foreign isms become?

Can Americans be made to realized that the first act of a foreign Communistic, Nazi, Fascist government, if set up in the United states as these foreign hordes dream of and labor for, would be confiscate all banks, factories, farms property, business enterprises and savings of the people, virtually enslaving the entire population as has been done in Russia and other countries; the killing, in cold blood, as in Russia, Ethiopia, Italy, and Germany, and lastly, in China of EVERY one who dared to protest or who should be suspected on not being in harmony with the regime?

The R.O.T.C. Association of Washington, D.C., which has made a most painstaking investigation, is authority for the statement that there are secret Red armed forces, first aid and medical squads, fully uniformed and equipped, organized in the United States, just as there is a Nazi uniformed army in New York and permitted to parade through New York city streets, and that communistic forces are continually attempting to organize within the National Guard, the Army and Navy of the United States.

Are the many strikes the result of American laborers attempting to improve their condition in a legitimate manner, or the efforts of aliens to gain control, first, of labor unions and the millions belonging to them and then all of the manufacturing plants?

This is all the easier to answer when Americans are made to realize that alien "ism" propagandists have been able to obtain control of 122 or more national labor and veteran unions and leagues in the United States, and that a newly organized "rank and file" movement is penetration and grasping control of may A.F.L., and especially C.I.O. unions and that in at least one State, Pennsylvania, a vast political party openly allied itself with the C.I.O. leaders.

There are more than thirty-six national communist youth movement in the United States, some of whom have openly asked our government for funds to carry on, all poisoning the minds of yourths against the American system of government and so-called capitalism, and glorifying war as waged in Ethiopia, Germany, Italy, Spain and China. The most noteworthy of these movements is permitted to have schools and camps in both New York and New Jersey where American youths who belong to such movements salute the Nazi flag, instead of being loyal to America and saluting the Stars and Stripes which gives them protection, liberty of thought and action and a home.

There are more than twenty-eight foreign national defense movements in the United States, all engaged in un-American activities and preparing to protect and defend; by all possible means, those caught in subversive conduct.

Can Americans ever be made to realize that the charge is made, and remains unrefuted, that Moscow recently published and shipped to the United States for distribution more than 200,000 school textbooks for American children (first and second grade)? These books, published in the English language, contain communistic propaganda. This being true, is there need to wonder why many of our public colleges are hotbeds of Communism, while the Public School system is falling into disrepute?

More than 100,000 copies of Stalin's book on Lenin and Bolshevism have already been circulated in the United states. Red song books are circulated in the United States. Red song books are circulated to thousands of youths in the United States, burlesquing such hymns as "Onward, Christian Soldiers."

The Unknown Soldier has also been burlesqued in Communist books.

At least on F.E.R.A. financed college in a Southern State was recently found to be a hotbed of Communism where marriage and divorce, as in Russia, were being portrayed, nudism rife, and free love openly practiced on the campus and in the dormitories with the full knowledge of the faculty.

Recently it was disclosed by National Republic, Washington, D.C., that one of the 610 communistic and co-operative national organizations in the Untied states today had receipts of over $460,000 in 1934, and that this organization maintains many schools, camps, forty-two uniformed bands, dance clubs, an eighty-piece symphony orchestra, and more than 1000 local clubs, while another fund as of December, 1934, showed expenditures of nearly two millions of dollars.

Another of these 610 Communist organizations spends more than $280,000 annually in the United States to defend arrested and deportable aliens and to agitate for their release. This organization has issued secretly printed instructions to all aliens in the United States on the subject: "What to do under arrest," which includes instructions to give fictitious names, wrong addresses, to commit perjury in court, and to transform the courtroom into a forum for Communism.

Can Americans be made to realize that members of these foreign isms who seek the overthrow of our - and every other constitutional - government have organized or have active members within the Government navy yards as well as in the various relief agencies and F.E.R.A. schools and that the City College of New York is known to almost every taxi driver in New York as the hotbed of Communism?

Can the taxpayers of America, master artisans and owners of homes, farmers and professional men be made to realize before it is too late that the members and workers of these foreign isms have already issued instructions to their millions of followers, who are American-housed and American-fed, to bring about nation-wide strikes, and, if possible, turn them into civil war as was accomplished in Spain, setting up barricades, again as in Spain and in China, in the streets of all principal cities; seizing the President ( even the murdering of the President) and his Cabinet when the time is propitious, the Federal Government, Army and Navy, and confiscating all property, banks and deposits, churches and manufacturing plants and enslaving the entire population as in Russia and more recently in China?

Is it possible to impress upon all responsible Americans that as a fact such a document was seized during the Minneapolis truck strike and turned over to Congress by the National Republic?

Can the workers of America, the majority union men, paying union dues, be made to realize that many of the strikes, riots and demonstrations in the United States during recent years were engineered by Communists and members of other foreign isms for the express purpose of turning the minds of these workers against property owners and manufacturing plant owners, alienating American workers, farmers, veterans and youths from the American system of Government? Thus they make it easier to seize the property when the time is ripe, and the workers are no more than tools and catspaws in the scheme, to be themselves exploited and their families degraded and worse, after their object has been achieved. Can the millions of workers be made to comprehend that these alien forces are expending more than 6,000,000 annually in the United States to promote a civil war leading to the overthrow of our great Government, so as to be able to seize all power and create another Communistic or Nazi nation, and that in MANY cases their own leaders in the unions are the paid agents of foreign governments?

Will it be possible to impress strongly enough upon the American mind that there is not the slightest difference between a Communistic, Nazi, or fascist State? All of them are egomaniac and debase what Americans hold most sacred, whether in religion or the home, and destroy every vestige of liberty and freedom of action.

On the 26th day of May the House approved a resolution calling for an investigation of "Un-American" organizations and foreign propaganda in this country after hearing charges that a speaker before a subversive group had advocated assassination of the President of the United States.

The resolution was introduced by Representative Martin Dies of Texas and , as a result, a committee of seven was appointed to inquire into the activities of the German-American Bund, the Communist Party and all similar groups.

Representative Dies' assertion that the President's life had been threatened coincided with disclosures, by secret agents in Chicago, that they were investigating such a report. Captain Thomas Callaghan revealed the fact that he had received for investigation a letter reporting that a speaker before the so-called Silver-shirts of America predicted that America will have a dictator in less than a year and that if no one else will volunteer to kill him, I will do bit myself." Despite all the revelations, the danger to America as a nation, and the possibility of a civil war engineered by these foreign hordes and their American agents, among them the Silver-shirts, many of the Nation's representatives were against such an investigation and the obtaining of first-hand information of the dangerous and inimical activities within our midst. Among these, Representative Stefan, of Nebraska, made the assertion that it would be inflaming the country against innocent people. He was forced to admit that the Nation had been flooded with subversive propaganda and un-American activities, but that there were many "innocent" German-Americans in the United States.

The liberals (?) in our legislative bodies seem to forget that free speech is not license and that advocating the violent overthrow of our Government is not free speech - it is ANARCHY. There is no intent to interfere with the freedom of Americans, whether American - or foreign-born, and the innocent will certainly not suffer because of any investigation. As a matter of fact, this is the only means for their protection, because all investigations will tend to separate the innocent from the guilty and bring punishment upon the guilty whether foreign - or American-born.

We firmly believe that immediate and thorough investigations should be made, and every true American citizens should urge the Government to institute and continue such investigations until the entire truth has been revealed and the guilty brought to account. Such investigations must be impartial , non-political, non-partisan and non-sectarian, and all information should be given the public. We further urge every organization in America to ask their members to write officials and members of all legislative bodies, demanding such investigations and pledging their whole-hearted support.

Every loyal American citizen must be awakened to the actual danger which now confronts us. Every citizen who is awake must be impressed with the fact that the universal grumbling now herd on all sides against aliens in America is not enough. EVERY American must write to his congressman, Senator or Representative, sending each a copy of this booklet, and demand that action be taken now to meet the dangerous problem. This is EVERY man's duty. He who fails to act must be ready to accept the full responsibility if his family is raped, his livelihood and liberty destroyed and he himself enslaved as has happened to millions now under the domination of egomaniacs in other parts of the world.

The one and only reason why the Communistic, Nazi and Fascist movements are making such an unprecedented progress is because the leaders of these movements have created an almost frenzied zeal in their followers and have made it seem natural for them to be willing to make any and every sacrifice of time, money and effort to preach and establish their subversive doctrines and make converts, more especially among the dissatisfied, disgruntled and criminally minded, as well as among those really worthwhile people - American citizens who have not been able to blind themselves to the unholy and unethical methods of many of our politicians who have shown themselves ever ready to the people's interest to the highest bidder and who, ignorantly, believe this the means to solve the problem of such injustice.

Americans, those imbued with the spirit of our forefathers who wrote and put into effect the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of this great Nation, who established homes and schools and who raised the American flag as the eternal symbol of freedom, must awaken to the danger confronting us - a danger as real as was that which earlier confronted the citizens of Russia, Ethiopia, China, Spain, Italy and Germany, and which has swept all of these nations into the vortex of confusion, degradation and destruction; must arouse in themselves an ever-greater zeal for American principles, the freedom our forefathers fought for, the maintenance of the Constitution as an instrument of justice, the sanctity of the American home, the inviolability of small business, the sacredness of the public school against the invasion of foreign propaganda, veneration for the flag as the symbol of freedom and protection and be willing to make as great, or ven greater, sacrifices for these things than the foreign hordes and their deluded followers are making to establish Communism, Naziism, Fascism and Nihilism in place of our fundamental institution, all in an orderly manner through our legislative bodies, and IN THIS WAY, AND ONLY IN THIS WAY, CAN AMERICA REMAIN SAFE FOR AMERICANS.

The American flag is not a religious symbol, but is the emblem of liberty and both justice and equality of all men. The American flag is symbolic of the power, the strength, the authority AND THE PROTECTION of all who accept it as such. They who seek these privileges and this protection should be proud to salute the flag, not in worship, but with reverence and pride.

Just as the Cross is symbolic of the Father of men, of Christ and of man's salvation and is do accepted and in many instances worshipped by all who love God and His commandments, so it there a symbolic representation of everything that is highly desirable. They who love America see in the flag a symbolization of all that can be ideally imagined, a prophecy of the future to be and of brotherhood among men. Such as these do not love God the less, but their country and its institutions with deeper reverence, not the reverence of worship, but of thankfulness for their blessings.

Since the American flag symbolizes freedom, constitutional guarantees, protection by the courts, the Army and Navy, those who refuse to salute the flag as a gesture of loyalty and appreciation of their rights and protection should be disfranchised and these rights and privileges refused them. They are aliens in heart and soul though they may be American-born. ONE COUNTRY, ONE FLAG, ONE CONSTITUTION - OUR HOME.

Due to the extraordinary privileges accorded all men and the lack of restraint imposed upon them by the Government and State officials generally, there is grave danger that Communists, Nazis, Fascist or Nihilists may, by a regime of violence, gain control of this New World for a short day.

As all the world knows, these people are atheists almost to a man and they hate, despise, yet fear, all who hold the nobler instincts of love for God, country and fellow-men, and because of this instinctive hatred and fear will do all in their power to destroy allegiances which inculcate these doctrines.

In Germany, Italy, Austria and Russia the first act of the new imperial masters and their cohorts was to place under ban and ruthlessly destroy all organizations such as the labor unions, patriotic organizations and especially various forms of Free Masonry. This will happen in America when freedom is lost because of criminal negligence and lack of vigilance on our part.

Masonry is strong in America; it inculcates the virtues of Brotherly Love, love of neighbor, the Fatherhood of God and the ultimate Brother hood of Man, yet it is being weakened because no attempt whatever is made to stem the tide of the foreign hordes and their subversive doctrines with which even Americans are becoming inoculated. The weakness of Masonry is in the faith of its strength. Mason of every class, awake and act before you are compelled to travel the identical path as did your brethren in Italy, Germany, Austria and Russia.

The remedy is not difficult once the issue is clear, inertia cast off and selfishness set aside:

1. The further reduction of immigration and the absolute exclusion of all aliens whose entry would be undesirable in America.
2. The tightening of exclusion restrictions.
3. To provide for the preferred employment of American citizens in ALL Government jobs and to prohibit the employment of other than American citizens in ANY department of the Army and Navy.
4. To provide a means for the immediate registration of every alien now in America, and to further provide that all aliens entering America so register on landing on American soil; all aliens so registered compelled to report periodically their whereabouts and means of livelihood.
5. To provide that all aliens NOW IN AMERICA, or WHO SHALL HEREAFTER ENTER AMERICA, signify their willingness to assume the responsibilities of citizenship and uphold American institutions by applying for their first citizenship papers within six months after their arrival. Those failing to do so within a period of eleven months and twenty days to be deported without the formality and expense of a trial.
6. To provide that any alien in America being found guilty of an offense committed before he has applied for his first papers shall be refused such papers and deported as undesirable.
7. To provide that all aliens now in America or entering America after such provisions are made shall be taxed equally with citizens and assume all responsibilities, but without right of vote, until after they become citizens.
8. To provide that all aliens in America shall be refused all the rights and privileges under American law, as well as all relief, until such time as they have become citizens.
9. To provide that aliens shall NOT be permitted to hold office of any nature whatever, nor be allowed by labor unions or corporations to become directors or executives thereof and be refused all vote of whatever nature in the affairs thereof.
10. To provide for the banning of all secret organizations which advocate the use of force or violence.
11. To provide, with heavy penalties and the immediate deportation of all aliens connected therewith, for the proscription and disbanding of all schools, movements, societies, publications, camps and congregations of men where is inculcated the disruption of the Union and the American form of government by violence or other than the orderly means of voting ro such change as guaranteed to all citizens by the Constitution.
12. To provide for the thorough investigation, by every lawful means, of Nihilism, Naziism, Fascism and Communism and every other subversive movement.
13. To provide for all necessary increase of the border patrols to prevent the smuggling in of aliens and contraband of whatever nature.
14. To provide for adequate national defense and mandatory neutrality.
15. To immediately provide for adequate tribunals for the prompt trial of aliens who are offenders against law and order, and for the immediate enforcement, WITHOUT INTERFERENCE FROM ANY SOURCE, of the decrees issued by such tribunals.
16. To provide for the apprehension and swift trial of public officials who fail to live up to their oath of office and thus set an example for citizens not in office.

Our sympathies are with our fellow-man of whatever color, creed or country, but we hold it as a self-evident fact that there is not even a semblance of injustice in requiring those of foreign birth with in our borders to comply with the same laws and assume the like responsibilities which are thrust upon us because of our birth under the banner of a free country and a protecting constitution.

The Sentinels: An Organization with but one "ism" - Americanism

I believe in the constitution of the United States of America and will do all in my power to maintain and uphold it.

I revere and salute the American flag, emblem of liberty and protection and the rights of man.

I believe and uphold the American Public School and will do all in my power to keep it free from sectarianism, the introduction of foreign propaganda in any form and the betrayal of our youth by agents of inimical organizations, subversive doctrines and degrading influences.
